Just got a 642, (no-lock). Love the low-profile grips on it, except they are rubber. Too Sticky / too snaggie. Want to replace them with wood grips with same 'profile'. Hogue Bantam wood grips are close in profile, but they are too thick in cross section. I want something thinner.

Any recommendations? Please post photo.

The S&W grip pictured above is a copy of the Uncle Mike's rubber boot grip which was designed by Craig Spegel, who produces the original, and arguably best, wood boot grip for J-frames: Craig Spegel - Custom Pistol Grips

Spegel's are about as low-profile as it gets. I'm not aware of anyone who makes a thinner grip. He is also the only maker of a Centennial frame-specific grip, as my photo shows.

Since you wish to duplicate the boot grip profile, the boot grip was designed to mimic the original Magna ('peanut') wooden factory grip with a Tyler-T grip adapter. If you can locate these 2 items, you will have, for you, the perfect grip.

My steel frames Js all follow Kaaskop49s suggestion, Magnas with a BK/Tyler grip adapter. My 3 airweights sport Eagle secret Service grips, light and thin.
