For those of us who have been lucky enough to have had a "best friend" from boyhood to "seasoned citizens" ...... What a gift !

Happy Birthday my young friend !
As I was reminded of your birthday this morning. I was drinking my coffee from an "antique" Lowenbrau mug courtesy of the "Old Europe" in D.C. I remember VIVIDLY the waitress catching up to us as we were about leave. She looked at us both ...and patted YOUR tummy to see if YOU had pilfered a mug. Evidently back then I could suck in MY stomach more than you 😆. The mug has now lost almost all of it's "logo" from about 57 years of dish washing 😥. I put the gun with one of my grips in the pic. to add some interest 😎. Also it is notable for YOU sending me down the road of "gun fanatic" when you turned 21. You bought a .22 pistol, a .22 rifle, and a 16 gauge shotgun. You took me out to shoot them and I was HOOKED 😱.
I could write a book on all the things we have shared from before driver's licenses to beyond Social Security .
Bill, Billy, William, and Wee Willy -- You ALL are always there in my BEST memories .... and helping me through some of my worst. The ONE thing that I appreciate about you the most is this ..... You have put up with ME for over 60 years now. That is no small accomplishment 😁
Always your buddy !
Ken

I have had such a friend for almost 75 years. His son wrote this after going on a pheasant hunt with us:

I've been ruminating on the lessons learned from traveling with two 70 year old men last week and have come up with a list:

1. Tasteless jokes don't ever stop being funny.
2. When an old man needs to go, he needs to go now.
3. Any person who has the chance to have a cradle to the grave friendship is very blessed.
4. If a man is truly lucky, spending time with his father becomes just hanging out with one of the guys at some point in his life.
5. Number 4 applies to his brother as well.
6. The older I get, the younger those old men seem to be.

I'm lucky to have a friend, Peter, that I have known for 60+ years, from the time we were about 8 years old. We knew each other from the YMCA and then ended up going to school together from about 7th grade. A couple years ago I got a call from his secretary asking if he could come out to see me for lunch. I said that I would be very happy to see him. So one day he came out from Philadephia and we had lunch in town.

After lunch I asked Peter why did he decide to come out to see me after all the years that had passed. He said that out of all his early childhood friends, I was the only one he knew of that was still alive. Peter is a published author, and he inscribed one of his books to me "My longest oldest childhood friend."

I've only known my best friend since my senior year in High School (fall of 1973). He was a sophomore, and we shared a dislike for playing basketball in phys. ed. Spending time in the woods camping and winter backpacking, and telling the same old tales.
