Good morning,
Recently picked up a 629-1 6" (classic hunter I believe), it has a weaver style heavy stainless scope rail and c-more railway red dot mounted. The original rear sight was not included nor is it available. Been looking at LPA sights and wondering if any of you fine folks here have any experience with them, and will I also (probably) have to swap out a new front sight?
Thanks all,
Have a great day.

Jerf, I put an LPA on my S&W 645. Now the 646 is an auto pistol, so my experience with LPA may or may not apply to your revolver sight, But…

The LPA that I have seems to be very well made. The edges are rounded. The notch is sharp. The adjustments are a bit stiff with a very positive click, so they aren't moving once set. The one I have, appears to be all steel, and nicely blued /blackened. In my eyes, it looks attractive.

I'd be apt to give the LPA a try.

While a replacement rear sight may not be availble from the Factory, they always show up on various parts sites as well as the auction sites

I do not recall if the 629 Classic Hunter had the IFS system for the front sights during the -1 engineering revision or not

Changing both sights would be the preferred process, you would be assured they were matching heights

I used LPA sights on several of my revolvers used for competition. They served me well, but then I discovered Bowen Rough Country sights - far superior.

At the time I purchased and used the LPA sights the importer was someone working out of their basement and the price was commensurately small. Now several bigger name retailers import and carry them and the price went up accordingly - almost to the level of the Bowen.

You may have a hard time buying a Bowen from Bowen - always "out of stock". I think that's because his gunsmith clients get priority, so check with gunsmiths in your area that service S&W revolvers, that's where I got mine.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

I agree with PB. The LPA is nice, but it's wide, so to me it is more of a target shooting sight. I much prefer the Bowen because I holster and carry my revolvers.

***It was just one front pin, IIRC. Thank you, TH

I have them on a couple of guns. hey are very rugged and well made. I think they are worth the investment if you don't have to have exact factory replacements.

Thanks for all the help folks. Yup, the Bowens are all sold out and I have yet to find a s&w smith anywhere near me so I think the LPAs' might be the way to go.
Thanks again.
Jeff

If it's drill for a scope, There is a like new LPA that will fit your 629 in accesories now, I used it with the standard front sight and worked fine, new on Amazon $ 106 selling for $50
