After reading all of the problems with the M&P pistols, such as Kabooms, bulging cases, sloppy slides, rusted safeties, dirty slides, shooting low and left, and countless other complaints, usually made by new forum members, I thought I would share my experiences. I have owned a full size 9mm, two 9mm Compacts (one is my wife's), two 9mm Shields (one is my wife's), and my newest, a 45 Compact. All have been flawless, straight shooters, and some of the best pistols I have ever owned. I shoot factory ammo as well as my own reloads, and I have never experienced any of the recently posted problems. I find it hard to believe that S&W has had their quality deteriorate to the point they are now producing firearms prone to so many complaints and failures. Reading some of these posts leave me wondering if there is some underlying motive for these negative posts. I guess I have been exceptionally lucky in buying pistols that have had so many reported problems.

how refreshing to read a positive post....I also have not had any problems, but I only have a FS40 right now...I am looking at buying a Shield 40 when I get the money for CC....I bought some 165gr. ammo today just for it to be on the safe side until they figure out what is going on....I think the number of KB's compared to the number of 40's out there is very small, but if the one that goes KB is in my hand then it would be one to many for me....just sayin

I have a 9mm CORE and a M&P 15-22. Both have been flawless since the day I purchased them. I have also had a 9mm fs. Flawless as well. Most people come to a forum for advice and opinions and not to boast about their perfect firearm. It is nice to hear there are a few good ones out there. Lol. Just think of the hand full of kabooms vs how many thousands of flawless ones are out there.

Same here. Bought an M&P 15 OR and then an M&P 40 FS about two weeks later. Both have been perfect right out of the box with no modification. Love them both. Thank you for starting this thread.

I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees

I've never had one problem with my M&P .40 Core either. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, you don't read about people complaining that their pistol functions perfectly every time they go out to the range. You only read the complaints. I bet out of every complaint is 5000 satisfied owners or more.

I have a 9mm Shield, a 9mm FS and a 45 acp compact. I have had no problems and I shoot them a lot. I have Sport also that is working great.

Yeah, I have the same problem. Bought an early generation M&P .45 in desert tan with the safety.

Try as I might with 185 & 200 grain LSWC, 230 grain LRN, factory and hand loaded 230 grain FMJ, and steel case Russian, I just can't get it to fail to load, fire or eject any of them!

What a disappointment! It is very annoying that it also shoots tighter groups with any ammo I use than my Colt series 70 or Sig 220!

I just don't understand it.

Do you thnk I should sell it or return it to the factory?

I just hate it when guns work flawlessly right out of the box.

No pics of all these sexy firearms? I don't get tired of looking at M&P sexy lines.

I own both the 9mm FS and 22 LR. No problems at all with either one. This is even after removing the safety on the 22 LR and installing the plug kit. They shoot tight groups consistently. They're both keepers for me. Another satisfied S&W owner here.

My experience with S&W M&P firearms is that they are as good or better than anything on the market - meaninf generally reliable after break in:

M&P 9 - flawless with thousands of rounds through it. Literally went "bang" everytime I pulled the trigger.

M&P 40 - Same as the FS 9mm

M&p 9c - a few failure to feed in first 200 rounds, but flawless since broken in

M&P 45 - initial FTFs that seem to be diminishing with break in. Gun is new, so I hvaen't shot it much.

Shield .40 - Serious mag drop problems initially. The reports on the internet were correct. Sent it to S&W and they returned it with two new magazines that had the "bump" added to the top of the mag release slot. I modified the original mags with a center punch to add the "bump" and the gun has been flawless since then with all mags.

So, My M&P pistols in 9mm and .40 have been stone cold reliable after break in (and mag modification for the Shield). Expect the same with the .45 once it is broken in. More reliable than other brands I've owned, other than Glock, but the ergonomics amd shootability of the M&P is, for me, far superior to the Glock.

I have to say I'm not as lucky.

My 9FS jammed one time the first day I took it out and my 22 had one failure to fire on it's first day. I guess I am one of the unlucky ones ;)

PS:

9 has a couple thousand rounds
22- bout a thousand...

Have a FS 40 with a 9mm and 357 sig barrels, also have aShield 9. No problems with any of them, to include the additional barrels...

I have a 9c which has close to a thousand rounds through it and a new to me 5" Pro. Zero issues with them, except the husband seems to really enjoy shooting them and he currently has more rounds down range on the Pro than I do. It amuses me since he declared that he hated "plastic" guns after shooting my Steyr 40 S&W.

I just got my Shield 40 last week and have already put 300 rounds through it without skipping a beat, one of the most solid built handguns i have ever shot in my life. You produce enough of anything and there will be defects

I have a Shield(2000+ rounds), a FS9(5000+ rounds), 9Pro(7500+ rounds) and 40 Pro(2000+ rounds).

No failures so far...

Late 2009 manufacture M&P9 FS. Absolute flawless running with every round I put through it with 115gr, 124gr, 124gr +P, and 147gr. Accuracy is fine too.

Just bought a new 9mm Shield built on January 20 of this year. Same ammo with the same flawless performance from the start.

I can see a lot more M&P pistols in my future and I am itching to get one in 45ACP. I own and appreciate all the top pistol brands and can honestly say the Smith & Wesson M&P pistols can stand along side any other pistol in the world in every category. Bill
