I picked my M&P 15-22 up last week and because of the lousy weather I have not had a chance to fire it until today. I bit the bullet (so to speak) and went to the local indoor range (hate indoor ranges) so that I could finally try it out.

Used CCI standard and hyper velocity ammo. In total I fired 250 rounds. Had 4 FTF which I am almost certain was due to improper loading of the mag. No FTE's at all, none. I know it is early in the round count but I am completely satisfied with this rifle.

I was shooting with a red dot mounted on a riser. Guess I should have kept some targets to post but you guys already know how accurate these things are.

Time to buy more ammo. I think that I am going to take belt's advice and stick with the higer velocity ammo for a few hundred rounds before I start feeding it bulk stuff.

Thanks to all who have posted info on the 15-22!

how do you properly load

Is there an easy way to load these mags. I have tried being very careful and still get some that aren't staggered?

Just make sure that you only pull the "thumb saver" down enough for 1 round to fit in the mag.

Here is my method.

I just pull down only enough on the Ambidextrous Load Assist Button:rolleyes: (ALAB), so the round has room to slide in, then let up on ALAB to ensure the loaded round sits up fully in the mag (not sure if this is needed but it seems to work) then start again. ---- I never bother looking to see if the rounds are staggered evenly or not. I figure if they aren't stacked right they will be when the next round is fed, or if they are staggered right they have just as good of chance of moving out of position when the next round is fed from the mag. I duknow... but I really don't have much problem. Besides... I'm not gonna unload and reload a mag of 22s... i'd just as soon toss it in the garbage can than do that all day. ;)

I read a post on ar15.com where a guy loaded 24 rounds in the mag not paying attention to allignment, then banged the mag on the bench and loaded the last round. He said it worked every time.

That's an old M-16 trick but it worked then. The other trick was not to load to capacity but stay one down. They were not plastic mags, however, so I would be careful banging them very hard. (Yes, I know I'm going to be sorry)

When I load my 15-22 mags, I load one at a time and let the spring return. When I have a few rounds loaded, I pull down the spring a couple of inches and release. Then load more and repeat the pull down of the spring and release. I also tap the mag while loading or when finished on my knee, other palm or maybe a counter where I am loading. All this might seem like a lot of extra effort, but only takes an extra 10 or 15 seconds per mag.
