Did anybody catch the beginning of the world series tonight. I was running through the fire station on my way to a call. I just caught 10 seconds of Lyle singing the national anthem accompanied by a guy with a (viola) I think thats what you call it. Real classy from the few seconds I caught.

saw it and it was very nice. the musician next to him was a very nice touch. nice to see him wearing a world series jacket not a TX or SF jacket, even though im pulling for SF.

I think Nolan Ryan should suit it up and pitch for TX, he can probly still wing it 90+ for an inning or 2

Yes. I came in to refill the halloween candy bowl and heard him.

I thought it was great. There are so many singers that try to make the Anthem something it is not. I appreciate a someone with a great vioce who gives it the respect it deserves.

I agree that he did a very nice job with it, he's got a good voice and style. I also think that Tony Bennett did a great job the other night in San Francisco singing God Bless America. That guy still has it...

Lyle Lovett is a solid guy. His music honors traditional country music while pushing it forward, and he never stoops to tackiness. Plus, even as odd as he looks, he still got Julia Roberts to marry him.

Okie John

What was julia thinking? Actualy I never heard or seen the guy untill julia roberts married him! Either I dont get out much or he plays to a very narrow group. But it does give ya hope when a guy as cute as him can snag a girl like julia! Er, I mean I am talking about other guys single like I was once.

I'm not a big fan of Lyle Lovett but unlike many of today's so called "artists", he does the Star Spangled Banner right. :)

He is a nice guy also, we sat next to him and his mother at the 6:00 am Easter service one year. He knows a lot of people at the Church. He also sang Silent Night in German last Christmas!

He's also got fine taste in hiring his band. His drummer, Russ Kunkel, played on tons of hits from James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Stevie Nicks, and a bunch of others. A few years ago, I played behind his steel player, Buck Reid. A world-class musician and a helluva nice guy as well. Lovett's figured out that this business is plenty hard enough without dealing with schmucks in your band on top of everything else.

Not only is Mr. Lovett an extremely talented performer, but he also rides dirt-bikes, and that makes him A-Okay in my book.

Dirt bikes, Ducatis and BMWs, but especially dirt bikes. Not only does he stand up and sing the song the way it's written, he says "perilous", not "perolous".

One year later, I left Houston
With an old friend at my side
Well it did not say much
But it was a beauty
Of a coal black forty-five

"The Lights of L.A. County"

Lyle's alright in my book. Seen him many times but I missed that--wish I had caught it!
