I have Lyman reloading dies for .44 magnum. Trying to reload Remington SJSP 240 grain. It seems like with the two size options they give (421L and 251L), the seating die is still not fitting the profile of the lead tip, and is shearing the lower outside edge of the tip down when I try to seat the bullet in the casing. I called Lyman and they did not have a solution to offer. Any ideas?

You can add epoxy or even hard sealing wax in the nose cavity, and then mold it to fit the bullet nose.

I'm going to assume that the 421L and 251L are for Lyman's 429421 and 429215 (not 251) lead semi-wadcutter bullets. They don't fit a JSP contour very well.

You can break the seating/crimping into two steps and probably avoid it. Or you can switch to lead semiwadcutters. Or, as previously mentioned, you can put some epoxy compound on the seating plug to make it match the contour of your bullet.

Or....you can just try shooting those skinned-up bullets and see how bad they shoot. I'll bet you'll find they shoot just dandy.
