Lyman new 51st reloading handbook

New up to date Loading guides are nice to have.

I received a new Accurate #1 from my brother but I do not use this brand of powder.
I have opened it two times, to look at some of its data but it just collects dust, for now.

The .41 Special case is the same length as the .38 Special. This article by John Taffin has a few loads in it.

Also, this Shooting Times article.

Revisiting the .41 Special - Shooting Times

41 Special is still a DIY wildcat . The above references are excellent and there are more on the internet .
Starline now makes 41 Special brass , Headstamped 41 Special and the proper length .
Most standard 41 Magnum reloading dies can be adjusted to seat and crimp the bullet for 41 Special loads .
Some good data can be found on the Cast Boolits Site . It is located in a "sticky" , several articles all in one place ... I printed all the articles out and have them in a 41 Special Reloading Binder (in case the net crashes) ... you wont find data in a Loading Manual ...that I know of , which is a shame .

Was there ever a 41 Special cartridge? I thought that was just a downloaded .41 Magnum and not a SAMMI cartridge.

Actually, I just looked on the SAMMI site and there is no reference to the 41 Special.

Unfortunately no, SAAMI has not recognized the 41 Special.

Handloader Magazine #304 and 305 had a two part series on the 41 special with a large amount of loading data. It is a good source of info.

Yes I know, I have those issues and have read them. At one time I was getting 6 magazines a month. It got to be too much so I cut it down to only one. Of course the one is Handloader Magazine... :)

Starline Brass is amazing. They make some very hard to find brass and some are very surprising. They have 41 Colt, 44 Colt, 44 Russian, 45 Cowboy Special, 45 S&W (Schofield) and a bunch of 9mm cartridges to name a few.

I have Lee .41 mag dies. With the shorter length of the Spl case, I can't lower the expander die or the bullet / crimper die enough to get any flare or crimp at all.

Just like a .357 - you can raise 38 spl dies, but you can't lower .357 dies enough to handle the spl.

There is a U-tube video re. the .41 Spl. A universal case expanding die and a .41 factory crimp die will get the job done. I have both on order.

I cut the bottom off of a 41 mag die to solve the expander and bullet seating die problem. I ordered a 41 special Profile Crimp Die from Redding since I crimp in a separate step anyway.
