I'd always hoped Ruger would make the PC carbine in 45 acp. But since they don't make them in 9mm or 40 cal anymore, I can probably shelve that little wish.

If you're looking for a gun that just resembles the M-1 carbine in .45ACP, there was the Marlin Camp Carbine. It used 1911 magazines and can be found from time to time on Gunbroker, but is pretty pricey when found. It was also made in 9mm, using Model 59 magazines I believe.

I have one and it's quite accurate, but has a couple of strikes against it. It has a magazine safety, which I do not like. The magazine release is too easy to accidentally bump - it needs a raised ridge around it or something. And since the gun is blowback and I shoot long guns left-handed, I get a fair amount of particles in the face when I shoot it. Otherwise, it's dandy.

Several years ago there was a company that advertised in Shotgun News that altered M1 Carbines to fire the 45 Win Mag cartridge.

There is a company now that makes a "chassis" that takes a 1911 reciever, and thus uses 1911 mags to make a 45 ACP carbine.

Once upon a time a buddy of mine bought a bunch of Rising full auto guns from a Police Dept, in 45 ACP. They did not have that great of a reputation on the conditions of WWII, but for us they never malfunctioned and were a hoot to shoot.

I believe that company was called LeMag...or something similar.
If memory serves Massad Ayoob did a write-up in Guns magazine, maybe 25 years ago....

Here's an experimental project I worked on a few years ago. Fires a .45ACP in slide action mode or a special handload which I call a .45 Garand Special which functions in the semi-auto mode.

The 30carbine is a more powerfull round than the 45acp and shoots flatter to. And you can carry alot more ammo. Try humping 6-30rd 45acp mags around. Its allfull heavy. My Uncle in Korea was glad when the company amourer crushed his rusty M3 greasegun and gave him a M1 carbine to replace it.

It was called the "Mag-1," and was made by Tim LeGendre, not Tim LaFrance. I owned one for about a year. They were excellent little guns, and I loved mine, but magazines were the fatal flaw. We had to modify standard M-1 mags by bending the feed lips inward a bit. A 15 round magazine held 6 rounds of .45 WM, and the 30s held 12. My gun worked beautifully with the short magazines, but with the long ones, the cycle rate was too fast for the mag springs to get the heavy cartridges up in front of the bolt quickly enough when the magazine was fully loaded. I couldn't find any mag springs strong enough to make the long mags work, and someone came along who wanted to pay me 4 times what I had in the carbine, so I sold it. I sometimes wish I had it back, so I might get Wolff to make me some high-strength springs. I was running 230 gr. bullets at just over 1900 fps. from mine. I forget what the 260s did, but they were thumpers.

Thank you 38-44HD45 for sharing your experiences with your gun. I heard about them but never actually got a chance to handle or shoot one. Don't you just hate it after you get rid of a gun and then you ding yourself in the forehead; saying "why didn't I try THAT before I got rid of it". Been there; done that :)
