I saw this first on the rimfire forum I believe, and decided to try it myself, I used a carbide ball cutter to remove the stock, then made a graphite electrode to burn the shape for the vents. I build plastic injection molds, and have the equipment to pull off the ground work. I have to send it out for bluing. It didn't take long to mill the sides, under an hour total. I broke the edge around length of the side, I thought it enhanced the appearance. Also I didn't realize that the front sight is pined through the side, you can barely find it.
I ground the original down to the top surface and when I burned a pocket to insert my new styled sight, I found the pin and original curved base pocket. If I make my own front sight with the fiber optic rod, .060, it will remain the same height as the original. I thought of ordering something that I could modify to height, but when I found the replacement rods, I figured I would make my own and see how it looks. I have since opened up the depth of the vents, they now have a thicker opening, I will post more photo's when I get more done.
