I had my new (to me) 422 at the 25 yrd range and it's hitting about 5" high with the rear sight bottomed out. I read that other's have this problem. What is the reason for this? Can S&W do anything for me? Is this due to the 4.5" barrel length?

Hello automaticlee,

Unless your 422 is some how different or your barrel rifling is damaged in some way, I would suggest you try some different ammo to see what shoots best from your 422 at 7yds. 1st. This will tell you where you POA/POI(point of aim/point of impact) is. From this info., you would need to adjust rear sight for windage (left or right) and elevation if ness. Then try shooting again at a longer distance. I own 2 422 and 1 2214. All are very accurate shooters out to 50yds. depending on shooter and ammo.
