I've been offered this Model 66. It has these markings that I'm curios about. S&W tells me from the serial number 9K23xxx that it was made in 1976, and there's no dash after the serial number.

Other than the grip it looks completely original, and in great shape. He's asking about 400$ for it, is that ok to US standards? I'm new to revolvers and I live in Denmark so there isn't many m.66's on the market. For reference a used 686 6" dash 4 is around 1000 $ here in Denmark.

Welcome. $400US would be cheap here in the US.The market here would be more like $600. $1000 would be high for a 686.
The markings indicate that it entered Europe through Germany in 1977.

agreed, $400 would be a very good excellent price here in the US and a reason to grab it and run. Check the action (S&W pre purchase checklist) $600 would be normal, anything else a bit high. That said, I do not see many around.

You could google the German proof marks. Eagle with the N for nitro approved and the location of the proof house in this case Ulm (the antler...). Pretty cool...enjoy

Thank you for your answers. I used the S&W checklist when I inspected and fired it yesterday. I didn't see any issues of concern, just a great shooter. Seller only had it for 4 years and can't tell much of the story, but I'm not going to pass this deal up. He's even adding ca. 200 rounds of ammo, 2 speed loaders and a rubber grip to sweeten the deal.
Did the model 66 come with wooden grips originally or synthetic? Can't really find a picture of an original no dash online.

That looks to me like a hogue grip, not a bad grip to have at the price. I see those a lot in competition, more often w/o finger grooves and with checkering. Those original targets will be very hard to find at a good deal.

Also, you may want to check the barrel for a cracked forcing cone, usually at the 6:00 position (flat) when viewing from rear.
