M-67 S&W

Have just run up on a really nice M-67 S&W in 4 inch. Think the fellow even has the box for it. I know it is a 38 Sp. Which seems to hurt the price a little ...at least around here. Is a 67 worth $650 in today's market. I'm not a big fan of SS guns but have kinda figured it may be a better piece to carry regularly than the pre model 15 I have...so will probably sell the pre 15 to finance the purchase...if I do buy it. Worth the price? He also has a 6 inch 586 for sale but wants a 100 more than the 67.

Buy the Model 67 but keep
the Model 15. Figure out
what else to sell.

They are handy and will get the
job done as far as self defense.
Having two never hurts, i.e.
a backup in case one needs a
bit of repair.

As to the 586 in 6 inches, a big
clunker you'll tire from carrying
if at all.

I expect many will disagree with
me on some or all points.

I recently purchased a M67-1 with box and$650 is a good price . I would keep the pre 15 unless on a tight budget . I also had a 586 6 inch and liked it but to me felt too heavy.

A 67 is a fine S&W. Price is about what one would expect these days. Be careful to avoid a buffed up, shiny ex-security guard or LE gun. Try to avoid parting with the pre-15 as they are fine ones too. A nice pre-15 is hard to come by.

A 4" 686 or perhaps a 586 is the near perfect all around gun, as long as you won't be carrying it a whole lot. I concur that the 6" 586 would get heavy on a belt pretty quick.

You are getting great advise. Keep the pre-15, but get the 67. Hard to find a better handgun to have than a M67!

I would buy the 67. In good condition, with box, $650 seems like a very reasonable price. But keep the M15. You will want it back, guaranteed. Find a different way to fund it.

As stated above, price is fair these days. I would not sell the Pre 15 to get it though.

Both are .38s in the Combat Masterpiece configuration but the 67s are FAR more common than the Pre 15s. There is no law against having 2 but you are far more likely to find another 67 later on than another Pre 15.

Thanks for all the help. I have been a little hesitant I guess about selling the pre 15. Thanks for the info on the 67. I have another way to pay for the 67 and I am going to do a gun show soon...so hopefully sell a rifle or two. ...mo money from that. I am just getting started on loaded a couple thousand 38s so I'll have 'nuff ammo. I had a 586 6 inch..glad you all reminded me of the weight. I definitely like the 4 inch guns better. I'll get the 67 on Tuesday I think and post a pic. More stuff I have gotten lately is one of the little 4 inch Rock Island 38 revolvers. Remind me of a Charter Arms piece....cept pretty inexpensive

Do not get rid of the model 15! And definitely get the model 67. A model 67 is my current carry piece. In a sky six holster from El Paso saddlery. I carry it all day without feeling it. And with six rounds of my own loaded ammo. I feel pretty confidant about getting home in one piece.

Yes, $650 is now a good price for a clean M67. I certainly wouldn't sell mine for that.

Get the M-67 and keep the M-15. I personally feel these are some of S&Ws best efforts with excellent balance, great trigger, sights and accuracy. For a fighting handgun the .38 Special makes a lot of sense.

We were down on the farm today shooting handguns. The M-67 we brought was just amazingly easy to hit with. Remember that only hits count.

Not much of a holster person but I like that one. And as far as carrying a revolver I carried a 3 1/2" 27 shoulder style for a while as a duty gun. Always leaned to the left. In the fall/winter/spring seasons I carry either a Wilson combat or the combat masterpiece. A 67 would serve just fine. Coats cover all things much better. Summer here just makes it too hard to carry something of those sizes. I do have a 19-2 and 66-1 but seem to shoot the 38s better

If I saw a 67 in good condition and a box at that price I would have left with it in my sweaty little hands. They are very nice revolvers. A +P 38 is nothing to sneeze at for self defense.

I would second all the above recommendations to go with the 67. I paid $150 for a very abused 67 no dash old duty gun that I gave to my gunsmith for rescue. It now sports polished face trigger, Bead blasted with shiny screws. Rear site blade changed to black. Cocabola grips from Hoque auction site (sure miss that). Sweet action job. Shoots like a laser.

I agree with all the above posters - the Model 67 is a very desirable revolver. I bought a no-dash several years ago that had been polished enough to make a '60s Cadillac bumper envious. I had my gunsmith restore its brushed finish and go over it while it was apart. I have a set of the original square-bottom Magna stocks for it but I like it better in a set of nice checkered targets.

Going to pick it up tomorrow. To be honest I didn't know he had the 67.. I inquired about a 686 4 inch 7 shooter he bought...presumably to sell. Nope, keeping it. I have a NIB Leupold VX III 30 mm scope I am going to trade. Not even up on his end...He also has a nice standard weight 20 ga 870 that I can get for 300. So maybe I can come home with 2. Looked at the 586...and it is easily 95-96%...but you are all pretty much right... darn heavy. Guy came down to 650 on it...but I passed. And all who like the M-15s and 67s are right...Nice balance and right weight. I do have a couple thousand 38 sp factory rounds in 125 and 158 gr HPs. With the reloads I am making I'll have 'nuff to shoot for a while. Thanks for all the replies. I guess I will keep the pre 15 CM. It goes with the pre 17 and pre 18 I have. Haven't shot the K-22. Just got it not long ago..the pre 18 is a good shooter though.

Any chance we can get a pic of the pre-15 before you let it go? Everyone's finance preferences are different, and so are what guns they want and how they obtain them. None of my business, but I'd like to see the pre-15, if possible, and maybe the 67 you get. Okay, now reading the post #17 I see you've found a way to keep it. Happy for you. Still, maybe one photo!

In August of 2014, I got a very nice, like hardly a mark on it, 67-1 for $200 plus $30 shipping on gunbroker. Auction started at $150 and had a Buy It Now price of $200. I didn't hesitate. Auction was less than 10 minutes old. I would not sell that 15. Prices in S&W revolvers just keep climbing. If you ever want another you'll pay more for it than what you sell it for now.

Evidently the pre 15 was made aout 53 or 54. I think it may have been refinished at one time. But a really good job in my opinion. The stocks are original. I thought seriously about getting a letter at one time as it has a W/O rear sight and TT TH. I think all were available at the time but just not a big deal on the letter. I shoot the darn thing. It has a trigger as nice as my 27-2 5 inch gun and it is very good. I will post pics after I get home this evening or tomorrow.. Going to din-din with friends this evening... and have to price stuff for the gun show this morning. I am taking one S&W to the show... a really nice 34-1 and maybe an old S&W 32-20 from the 20s
