i just got a new 15-22 today (serial # DUR****), and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good case for it, i will be adding a folding bi pod and a fore-grip to it, i dong know if the fore-grip will be folding, so i do not want to have to take it off just to get in the case, so any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

I just ordered the Voodoo Tactical bag from sportsman's guide. It's not a "case" exactly but it's padded and does what I want it to. It actually holds two rifles, but I only have the one for now.

Mil - Spec Plus 36 Tactical Gun Case, Military Surplus, Brand Not Specified at Sportsman's Guide

Pretty good price for what is a really nice bag. Completely padded in the main compartments. Several smaller pockets for mags and tools and whatnot. Handles, shoulder strap, and backpack straps. My buddy has one and if he's got two rifles and some ammo (not even a lot of ammo really) the backpack straps are awesome if you're walking more than a few feet. I weighed his bag once and it was just under 40lbs. I did the 42" so I would have a little extra room, maybe leave the stock extended or something.

That bag looks very similar to a tactical bag that i picked up by Condor (looks like I paid too much though, $80 for 42" vs $60 at Sportsman's Guide but no shipping I guess). Mine has a second padded compartment that has two half length pockets which work well for carrying handguns. All the extra pockets on the outside are great for carrying extra clips and other accessories.

I went with the UTG Tactical 34 inch case. Holds my MP15-22, with grip pod. No problem. I do have to make it the shortest length possible but the case holds up very well. I also carry my 1911 in the front pouch along with plenty of storage for mags. Got mine on Amazon for 30 bucks but can't find a link for it.

Dezmick,
Few thoughts before you drop your $$ for any case.

1. What is intended purpose of the case, e.g. storage, transport...?
If it is storage, then any old case that fits will work. if storage and transport then make sure your case is made with quality material -- zippers, zipper pulls, lockable, etc... ( I've use the cheap cases and I ended up buying twice!) Does the weapon slide in or does the case open all the way around the case -- the can make a big difference depending how often you take the weapon out.
2. Are you casing just the weapon or other stuff?
Some cases hold just the weapon zero room for mags, tools, grips, slings, cleaning stuff, etc. Other cases will have pockets for mags, the case will fit a weapon with sights, grips, lights, etc.
3. How discreet do you want the case? Does it look like a gun case or a instrument case?
This is important depended where you live and shoot. A discreet case does not raise any eye brows when carrying the weapon from home to vehicle to range or gun shops. while a traditional case that outlines a weapon is not very discreet.
4. Do you want a hard shell or soft side case?
This may seem trivial, but again it goes with the intended purpose of the case. I use both. I use hard shelled cases w/foam egg shell padding when I'm elk hunting...don't have to worry during travel and they stay put tied to an ATV. They weigh more than a soft sided case, but they really protect the weapon (some are even water proof). Soft sided cases are light and flexible for carrying around.

For my ARs I use the Blackhawk Discreet Weapons Cases - 40". The weapon compartment has a double zipper pull to open the case flat. It is large enough for a collapsed AR w/ optics, attached grip pod, the two inch heavy duty Velcro straps can be moved around to to get the best hold on the weapon. Plenty of room for my sling, gloves, or other soft gear(light jacket and cap). The outside compartment is Velcro lined and comes a three magazine pouch panel ( will hold six 15-22 25rd mags), room for 10 rd mags (you can very have too many magazines), shooting glasses, hearing pro., small tools, rags, cleaning supplies, and my Hoppe's Bore Snake.
No logo patches / logos ..just a plain black case with a shoulder strap.

JMO,

I got a Winchester hard side take down shotgun case that cost about $80. I have a scope. a handle with a pop out bipod and it fits nicely with the stock at short position.

I use the NCstar drag bag. Its the same as the Voodoo tactical bag in all aspects. Dessert tan color, full body harness for backpacking with it. Pockets galore, and it can carry 2 rifles with one per compartment. I keep my AR 15 .223 version as well as my M&P 15 22 in the bag. Each gun has a removable bipod and vertical grip as well as some form of optics, lasers, lights etc. It fits them with room to spare.

The locking straps that keep the gun from moving are a big help as well. As the video will show. I take my bag to the range, or on the trails etc. Its VERY durable, and it works great. I keep 2 sets of winchester ear protection(cups), around 5 boxes of .22 ammo bulk pack 375-550 count , at least 2 sets of eye protection, bug spray, a pack of Shoot'n see targets, shooting gloves, 9 magazines, 2 sets of allen wrenches, and cleaning kit supplies( Q-tips, rem oil, toothbrush, spray can of break free, etc) in this bag and I have room to spare.

Here is a link to video on youtube. It is a review done by a guy that seems to use this bag for airsoft( why lord, why?). Any way this review shows all that this bag can do. Now Keep in mind the Voodoo and NCstar bags are actually a more rugged/durable version than the one shown here. For example the carry handles are no where near how they are on the NCstar and Voodoo tactical bags that im referring to( the one in the video are not stitched as well and are not as thick), but this bag in the video has all the same features, in the same locations...its just not as well constructed. Any way here is the link. I HIGHLY suggest this bag!
