updated design

I just tested out Skunk's new and improved loader. Still a beta unit but getting closer to a finished production version.

First the shipping. A solid tube with protective foam/bubble wrap kept everything in perfect condition.

The loader box with the new cut out works just as well as the original and does away with the need for a tab on the feed tube with makes the system more robust and eliminates a potential point of failure.

The updated tubes are better formed and more repeatable, which gives a more professional appearance. They also worked with 25, 32 and 50 round magazines without the need to bend or adjust anything.

This loader just keeps getting better, great job Chris.

Now finalize this thing and let others share the joy of loading :D .

I too got to test the new loader just the other day! The tube did arrive in perfect shape, packed in a piece of PVC piping. Tried it out and it does really work well. Especially, after the tip of loading the shells into the front of the tray only so they don't pile up on top of each other.

I'm going to use the other unit I have to modify it and try a new idea for you, skunk. soon and post some pictures! I think it's going to work even better.

im trying ,, i waiting for the shipment of brass to make several hundred models this week,, and the web site should be ready to turn on early next week,, so i am looking at the minimum 1-2 weeks!!!!!i am hoping to be open for business by fathers day or the first day of summer!!!:confused:

Congratulations on the release of the beta. Sounds like they are a hit.

I'm curious, was there some reason the tube wasn't perhaps 2 to 3 inches long and with a modified hopper, you could two-handedly load a 25 round magazine all at once?

thanks, so far so good! and time will tell, its all up to the end product now and some marketing!

lol you pretty much described my 1st prototype,(it was quite a contraption), it was cumbersome to use and the cost of manufacturing that design was not only costly but a tooling nightmare on the small investor budget i had to work with. we estimated the molding and engineering costs to be 10 times what we had with this design, and add in the legal risks and expenses be cause it was hedging on some other already patented designs! and didn't warrant the risk on that design verse this design which gave us a simple fresh patent design ,low mfg cost and just overall the simplest design.

its interesting how various outside forces can actually change the shape of a fiscal object!

Boz, I think many of us had that same thought at first too (insert crude joke here) but after testing the loader I think Skunk has the length about right, if anything it's getting close to being too long (ok, time for another joke). The operation is so simple and quick, adding more rounds to the tube when empty takes only a second.

I'm not sure if Skunk has added marking to the tray (5, 10 etc.) but that is something I did, although it's easy to pour extras back to the tray when finished.

zax pretty much hit the nail on the head

my first though was why not make it long enough for all 25 rounds...then i got the loader and realized it would have been too long...the length seems perfect...

with the raven customs load assist tool(see my review) it's actually pretty easy to load all 25(or 30 out of 35 rounds in a plinker tactical) rounds non stop with a little bit of practice...

update:

received all the brass Friday!
going to start fabrication on the tubes this week while the web site is getting rapped up!!
so everything is still on track for the web site to be turned on for the week of the 16th-the 21st.!
the first round of tubes will be personally hand made by yours truly!
i still cant find a company that doesn't want as much as the whole kit just to make the tubes!,,
but haven't gave up hope on that problem yet..the USA is a large area and have only touched the surface of metal mfg's.

i will have the final 13" brass tube available for the tester units by the end of the week ..
i still haven't heard from all the testers yet.
if you are a tester and are interested in receiving the final tube please im me and i will send you one(free of charge).

fingers crossed:eek:

Just got done on the range with the loader, and what an improvement! I loaded the first magazine by hand to remind myself how long it took, then I loaded 3 magazines in less time than it took to load the first by hand, using the loader. This loader is awesome the KISS design makes it that much better to use. Like the other reviews before the tube is the only drawback of the design that I used (it is the aluminum tube) other than that all magazines loaded efficiently once it was calibrated. Once the final design is ready I know it will work even better. I loaded and fired 300 rounds of CCI mini mag round nose, HP, and Remington thunderbolt. The only issue I had was 2 failure to feed on the HPs I believe that it may have been from improper stagger and the round nose is not effected as much as the HPs are. They basically were slammed into the front magazine lip and caught, sticking the bolt open. Other than that it was flawless just a few tweaks and it will be perfect. Chris this is a great product you have I recommend it to anyone with a 15-22. Keep up the great work. Sorry for the horrible grammar its late and I'm typing on a tablet with my thumbs.

I've loved the reviews on this. I'm looking forward to them going on sale, but I might miss my chance. I'm heading our of town the same week they come out. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

update

ok everyone,, one of our testers "straightshooter" from texas came up with a new tube tip design the works very well, the new cut is on the magazine side of the tube,,
it is a side cut instead of a square cut,, and has made my side alot easier and makes the brass tube that much more sturdier too.!!! i think all you testers will agree,"
you should be able to empty your mag, then throw the box, then use the tube to stab a zombie or alien with the tube!!!(just in case!)
web site looks good just gave it a test drive,, needs a few more tweaks but it looks like it will work for now,, hopefully, will try to turn it on for the week end!!!!
i will be sending out the new tubes for the testers this weekend!!!!please post what you all think of it..

I was thinking, What if you, instead of cutting the M shape out of the bottom of the loader you simply cut a slot just below the ramp where the rounds sit. Take the tube and make about a 1/4" section that is flat with no raised sides and then slide that into the slot that was cut out. It would make it less likely that when the rounds are being pushed into the tube that one might let the tube drop away from the base and make it more foolproof because it will always line up the same them.

Thoughts?

i think i know what you mean ,, but the new brass tube has a small "tit" to insert in the grove and seems to wirk very well,,
with out modifying the box., i guess wait to try out the new tube design and,or try to draw a pic to describe a bit more in detail,,im always willing to explore anything that makes this better!,, as long as it dont take to much capital to make the change that is!:)

So I'm back at work and my girlfriend was cleaning up the closet and came across the loader. I had told her about it when it came in, but we had other priorities so she wasn't too interested. Anyway, she got to playing around with it and figured out how to use it without even asking me :) Just goes to show how genius of a design it is
