I just purchased a 15-22 about three days ago, i do own a m&p 9c & wanted a rifle so i bought the 15-22 only because the m&p 15s were either sold or or way to expensive, so what my question is now that there availble should i get one , is the 15-22 good enough in a SHTF situation or what , i mean a bullet is a bullet right?

OKAY i'll bite: Good enough for what?? Better than a stick not as good as an AR, with a light and beta-mag. Quieter, less damage to small game, less expensive ammo all with 22lr, while 5.56 can stop a fight quickly, up close or at 200 yds, take big game, louder/expense. But I suspect you know that already! " now that there available should I get one?" A MP-15 ? Yes, get normal capacity 30 rd mags, min of 6, min 2K rds of ammo, practice! " A BULLET IS NOT A BULLET" Be Safe,

If you purchased the M&P 15-22 to be used as a trainer for the AR-15 and to allow you to shoot more often for less money, then you won't be disappointed. It is a great trainer and very fun to shoot.

If you are expecting it to fulfill the same roll as a centerfire firearm in a hunting or defensive situation, you will be disappointed. While I would not want to be shot by a .22lr, a bullet is not a bullet, and the M&P 15-22 will not be as effective on large game, or in a defensive role as an AR-15.

My 2 cents (worth about .5 cents) If you need to grab the bug out bag I can carry 2000 rounds easy of 22LR, can you carry 2000 rounds of 223 and everything else? NOT , Plus I can take a ammo can of 4000 rounds in it and not be out to much if someone takes it. Gander has a five gallon bucket of 22LR for $70 bucks.

They do? Link?

If your wanting a home defense weapon I recommend getting a 12guage shotgun if your worried about it. But something is better then nothing!

you can fire 25 rounds of cci velocitor, center mass, with very little recoil on an intruder in 3-4 seconds. no man can survive this.

cci velocitor at 300 yards penetrating through multiple layers of denim and a 5-6 inch thick round roast.

We had this discussion in your thread.... You will not put 25 rounds, center mass, in 3-4 seconds on an intruder. It won't happen, adrenaline will keep you from making everyone of those rounds hit. Plus, penetrating a roast and making a large enough wound channel to immediately stop a threat are two completely different things. If the .22lr was a good man stopper, why wouldn't police departments be using it?

It is a great round for small game hunting and target shooting. It is better than nothing, but is not optimal, nor should it be your first choice for self defense. If your idea of SHTF and bug out useage is for small game hunting only, then the .22lr is fine.

Don't sweat it. The 15-22 is not a main battle weapon. However, in a apocalyptic meltdown, the greatest concern will not be engaging multiple hostile aggressors but rather doing your dead level best to avoid such engagements and beat it away from population centers the country side where you can lay low and let everyone else melt down.

In that sort of situation you will likely be on foot having to carry everything. A 15-22 w/ lots of .22 LR ammo will be extremely useful for small game hunting and... dealing with predators. The truth is, you'd be doing as little shooting as possible as it would draw to much unwanted attention. As well for hunting, you'd want to use snares, traps, etc. so as to maximize meat production.

If you should decide you want a AR-15 of some sort, wait until this current hysteria driven buying slacks off. At around the time people are paying their taxes in April you'll likely see AR-15's offered for less than ridiculous prices.

You can for sure kill someone with a .22, but they may not die quickly enough to save your own bacon. My 15-22 is basically for cheap, fun practice for the big sister AR15. That said, it is always loaded (with stingers) and handy, along with my two 9mm's and the AR.

The issue is not effectiveness but reliability. Self-loading centerfires are much more reliable than self-loading rimfires. Just saying.

Should you buy one.

Yes: Get comfortable shooing it, use the .22 for training, practice and fun.

For the price of a MP15/22 you can get a Ruger 10/22 and ammo/mags.

My 10/22 cost $109. New ones are in the $220 range.
