Just joined here and have a question. My wife just bought me the M&P 15-22 for Christmas(a huge surprise). I had mentioned I liked the M&P sport before. The problem is, she went to the shop, with no idea except it was a rifle and it was and M&P. She either misunderstood or was lead to believe that there were only two models, the 15-22 and the military type up to $1900. I don't know if the guy was out of the sport and wanted to sell the .22 or what. I would like to think it was just miscommunication. Anyway, she bought the .22. After looking at this site, alot of people seem to love the .22. Now the question, keep the .22 or try to take it back to get the sport? Bless my wife's heart, I would like to keep it because she tried so hard. Just looking for some opinions from people who have had these. Thanks.

I wouldn't sell the gift your wife got you for Christmas. Hungryman's aren't that good.

Take her shooting with you. You'll have fun together, and you might forget about the AR for a little while.

There is no cure for Black Rifle Disease though. You just keep buying/building them until it goes dormant. Then one day you look at your spare parts bin and see a section of rail cover that inspires another build.

You guys are right! I feel like a jerk for even thinking about giving it up now. Especially since this is the first gun she has ever bought me. Thanks for the replies. Looking forward to shooting it!

Enjoy it, you will be glad you did !!!

Good advice. I was never a .22 LR plinker fan myself until I got a 15-22 for my son and I to enjoy. One of the best purchases I ever made. It won't take the place of my Rock River AR, but it's just as much fun and a whole lot less expensive to shoot.

Amen, Brother!

To the OP, keep it. You'll shoot the 15-22 10 times as much as the Sport once you see how much more you can shoot the 15-22 for the same amount of money. Try finding 525 rounds of 5.56 for $20. :D

The 15-22 is a keeper for sure...and so is your wife for such an awesome gift. I'm sure once you put a few rounds down range you'll know you made the right decision. It's fun and cheap to shoot. I have a friend with a .223 AR-15, and he was impressed with my 15-22. Since .22 ammo is so inexpensive, chances are you'll shoot it more often than an AR of higher caliber. Of course a lot of us are biased since this is the 15-22 forum, but there are plenty of members here that have both an AR-15 and the 15-22 and I can't remember seeing any of them saying anything bad about the 15-22. Hope you enjoy yours as much as the rest of us.

Just got back from the indoor range. First time I've ever been to one. Most fun I've ever had with my clothes on! I am so glad I got on this forum. Thanks guys for making me see the light. This thing is awesome! Now for the accessories.

15-22 definitely doesnt take place of a 223. Its a great second gun in my opinion. Like others said, fun and less expensive. But definitely no comparison. Apples and oranges.

Send it to me...I'll hold on to it for you! :-) Then I won't have to fight my wife for mine when we're at the range!

All it takes is shooting it once and you have the fever. Don't forget to let your wife shoot too.
