Hello everyone, I am brand new to these forums and am looking to buy my first AR and after research and advice from friends I have decided on the M&P-15 Sport. I have a few questions about it.

1. Is the rear sight removable?
2. Since there is no dust cover could I mount an ejection port cover on one? Im not sure on an ejection port covers role and if it must be removed before shooting.

Thank you for the help guys

1. Yes

2. No you can't .

Yes, the rear sight is removable and can be replaced with another sight. As far as the ejection port cover, you can not add one to the Sport without changing the upper. There are many on here who have done just that, as well as others like me who just enjoy the rifle for what it is.

The purpose of the ejection port cover is to keep dirt and such off the bolt while not shooting. Once you either pull back on the charging handle, or pull the trigger, the ejection port opens. It is not sealed, so it does not keep dust out, and was not part of the original design. Some like them, some can live without them.

Yes on the rear sight. The dust cover is the ejection port cover. They probably make some kind of stick on or magnetic one by now but if it's that important to you than i'd get a rifle that comes with one. The sport is a great rifle. Several friends of mine and a lot of people on here own sports and i've never herd anyone say they miss the DC or FA.

I have a Sport and I love this AR, but to be quite honest not having the DC and the FA did not really bother me to much at the time. But the more I used it and I keep looking at the rifle I said to myself it sure looks naked without it. So what do I do next, I put a YHM-100 upper on it with the DC and FA. I guess I was kind of glad I did it. :)

I was a combat veteran in Vietnam and carried an M-16 and the ejection port cover was needed because of the monsoon season and the dry season. We also slept in the Jungle on the ground for long periods. So in my opinion it was required over there. I never once had to use the forward assist so to me it was wasn't needed.
I bought a DPMS Sportical (entry level AR) that doesn't have those two things and I haven't missed a beat in the AR's function. It eats everything and shoots 1 MOA at 100 yards so it meets my needs.

What ammo do you use for the 1 moa at 100 yard accuracy?
Sorry for the side rail but I believe the questions have been answered.

I reload for it using IMR 3031 and I use a 55 grain full metal jacket bullet and I also have a 3x9 Leupold Vari-XII scope on it..
