This may be a stupid question but i dont know so here we go....
Can I put a longer rail instead of the carbine length one?

If you mean a fore grip/ quad rail, etc. the simple answer is no. If you are in the 'modifying mood' you could do some fab work and make one work. Then again, if you switch the rifle to a free float stock, you can get a low profile gas block, and yes, have a longer quad rail system fit to the rifle.
But in general, for a simple drop in type piece, the rifle is carbine length, so you are going to use carbine length rails.
You could always go to a midlength barrel assembly, and then, well- you'd be a midlength, which is longer. This will cost a good deal more than most want to spend, as they are buying a gas block, tube, barrel, quadrail, and usually a different set of weights or springs for the buffer tube.

These gentlemen pretty well covered it, If you want to remove your front sight base and replace it with a smaller gas block or cut it down you can put a longer free float rail, or you can buy the extended one that lets your front sight stick up through it. It really is just a matter of how much money you want to spend and how much work you want to do.

More ???'s about the Sport.

Since we are talking about the Sport, I want to ditch the Front Sight/Gas Block. Was looking for a Low Profile Gas Block.

Any good suggestions out there?

I put a Yankee Hill Machine (YHM.net) low profile gas block and Spectre-length light weight free-float forearm on my ArmaLite. They make several lengths and are reasonably priced and very well made. They can be purchased directly from YHM but you can find them for less at the usual mail-order houses such as MidwayUSA, Brownells, or Grafs.

Does anyone have any experience with installing this on a Sport? I like the idea of the extended forearm while keeping the front sight, but I was wondering how this would work with the gas block and delta ring etc. ???

It is a two piece type of rail that is held in place by the delta ring and the front cap. It is not a free float type rail system. Install instructions can be found at Image Download

Exactly Grover this is when our sickness kicks in and our wallets get lighter.:o

I put a Yankee Hill micro gas block and then a smaller diameter rifle length Nordic free float on my Sport. I can get a top rail that would run the length of the handguard or sections of rail that I can screw to the sides or bottom. I really like the thinner handguard and I am not mounting anything on the handguard at this time to require the rail. I am considering another Nordic rifle length for my homebuilt but getting the rail so I can mount a front sight out toward the end of the barrel. Possibly the extra long one.
