Hello all,

I recently jumped on the bandwagon and puchased an M&P15 but I'm noticing that after some use and a cleaning that the rifle seems sort of wobbly/loose. I think the looseness might be coming from the stock or even possibly where the takedown bolts are.

Has anyone had this issue before, and if so, what'd you do to fix it? I've seen some grommet/o-ring tricks and some sites are selling actual rubber pieces you stick in the gun to make it not wobble. Has anyone here used anything like this before?

Also, a picture of my toy :

Thanks for your help!

If it's a used rifle it happens, if it's a new one it shouldn't.
I stay away from wedges and other gimmicks as they really don't help accuracy or function and can be more problem than help.

Also, what kind of red dot is that?
My mind wants to say it's backwards.

the castle nut on my buttstock occasionally comes loose... loctite and a retightening solved the issue

That wobble doen't bother me, but does it work?

Works like a charm, it's more of an annoyance and since the M&P is my first AR, I just want to make sure it isn't a sign of some other serious problem that the gun might have.

Googling around, it seems that this problem happens to a lot of different makes/models, here's one example from ar15armory.com where they specifically mention the accuwedge fixing a wobble :

When you first installed your sightmark, did you have to dial it in a little bit or was it accurate from the get go? When me and the wife are at the range, our groupings are amazing but they're always down & to the left of where we're aiming even up close.

I dial it in a little-bit, but does it only go down to the left a closer range if you didn't sight it in a the yardage.

The lateral play in the clearance between the upper and lower is present in most AR-15 rifles. The difference in the amount of lateral play varies.

My 15-Sport has just a little lateral play. When grasping the upper with my thumb and forefinger, I get just a hint of play. The AR I assembled has no play whatsoever.

Part of the lateral play comes from the fit of the rear take down pin to the upper. If it really bothers you, you can install a rear tensiioning take down pin from JP Enterprises.

IMO, the rear tensioning take down spring is a better method for addressing perceived excess lateral play than any accurizing wedge.

It is VERY normal to have to adjust the windage and elevation of a scope, red dot, iron sights, etc. The variances in firearms, mounts, scope mounts, ammo and other aspects virtually guarantee that some adjustment will be necessary. I say the following without offense, you really need to get into the basics of firearms, firearms handling. It will make you and your wife a safer and better shooter.

Well how far are they shooting?
