bought a 1522 month ago, so far ive got 300 rounds thru it. 2 ftl's, from the charging handle, not boltcatch, shooting cci minimags copp plt 40 grn, cci lead round nose 1070fps. seems great, easier than feeding 5.56@$65 per 100. heard mixed reviews on ammo for 1522, are people not cleaning their weapons? please some input here.

aprreciate it defender3, will update next time out or at the range, thanks for the thread on ammo, im a big fan of treating my weapons like kids(dont have any)so my guns get my utmost respect, also trying to get info on model 639sw, acces, parts, &breakdwn procedures

I've found that my 15-22 likes Federal or Winchester bulk. Haven't had much chance to use it but first 100 went without a hitch of any kind.

thanks for responding raveneap, federal shoots great through my 5.56, use .223 55gr fmj, just been hearing these horror stories about lead nose, hp, 30gr, or HV.Spent $475 on this 1522, no fed .22lr @ gun shop, walmart, etc, here where i live, cci seems alright, just looking for someone who has really put hurtin on their 1522. By the way i clean'em all religously

Ran 1000 rounds of CCI through mine with zero issues but I clean it as soon as I'm done too.

I've shot a lot of different ammo through mine and I agree with most of the others here. For my gun I would break down ammo like this:

1. Federal Bulk (works great, comparatively cheap, my go-to ammo for the 15-22)
2. Federal: Lightning or Champion (worked great, slightly more expensive than bulk.)
3. CCI: Minimags or Stingers (works great but more expensive than Federal)

Other Opinions...

Wolf Match - These worked well but are expensive so I don't typically shoot them.
Eley Sport - These worked well but are again fairly expensive.
Winchester Bulk - These worked well but are not as easy to find here, I prefer Federal.
Remington Target - These worked ok but had more failures to fire than other ammo.
Remington Golden Bullets - I avoid these like the plague, I suggest you do so as well. They ran really dirty, increased feed problems, poor reliability.

I know I've shot a few other types as well but can't remember what they were. Obviously they didn't perform well enough or cost to much for me to make note of them for future use. ;) Stick with Federal or CCI and you should be set!

I have about 1000 rounds of Winchester Super X bulk (boxed as "333") with minimal problems. Hope it keeps working good as it's about $105 a case (3330 rounds).

Although I have shot just about every kind of ammo made through my m&p 15-22, my favorite pick is the CCI Mini-mag and/or Stingers. Zero problems with either of those...:)

The biggest problem now is finding a supply!

no fails with CCI Tactical or Norma Tac22. about 700 rounds or so of both. 2 fails with Minimags, about 500 rounds shot of those...

going to try my CCI Standard Velocity rounds next. ive read good reviews on those. accurate and subsonic that will cycle.

Purchased my 1522 2weeks ago. Haven`t fired it yet diid my homework before purchase but just prior to purchase bought 1000 rds of Rem.bulk should I use it ??

If you've got it, use it. Mine will fire anything I feed it...T-bolts, Golden Bullets, it shoots any bulk ammo just fine. Of course it gets dirtier, but I clean every time I shoot.

Mine seems to like anything I feed it....even the Remington Golden poo.

I was shooting forty year old Revolation and Montgomery Wards ammo the other day with only a few dead primers in several hundred rounds. I have two 15-22's and feeding has never been an issue no matter what I feed it. Smith sure produced a fine weapon well on it's way to cult status.

Just acquired some old SuperX standard velocity manufactured in the early 60's. Shot more consistent than the Rem GB's and no failures. The only problem I've ever had is with my oldest 1522 shooting Rem GB's. I've had two OOB's with that stuff.
My newer 1522 has never had a problem with anything I've shot through it. Makes me think the chamber may be a little tighter on the older one. And the older 1522 is noticeably more accurate than the newer. One inch groups versus inch and half to two inch groups given the same ammo at 25 yards. My old 1522 loves Winchester bulk 36 gr and will shoot it at less than an inch at 25 and squirrel head deadly at 50 yards:D

That's a firearm problem, not an ammo problem - caused by the firing pin hitting the rim of the cartridge before the bolt has completely closed. That's the definition of Out-of-battery.

Ricky, Shot some white paper box mini mags today with my MP .22 compact, do not know what year I bought them but they grouped with all holes touching. Not a great distance (7 yd) but all I could muster at the time. The old ammo is doing just fine and I chuckled at $.99 price tag on a box of shorts.

The problem is that the golden bullets have some issues with chambering all the way. It's like the bullet had corrosion on them. These were always stored in the original boxes inside a sealed ammo can, so I don't know why but I have quite a bit of it with this problem. No other 22 ammo I have has this problem.
I have noticed that it happens in my first 1522 , so I'm thinking the chamber is a bit tighter, therefore the corroded bullets get caught in the chamber and not allowing them to chamber all the way in.
And yes I do know how to clean a weapon. This particular weapon has had an oob detonation twice since new. Sent it back the first time and they upgraded the springs. Second time it blew out the extractor and was never found so I made a new one from scratch.
