I own a M&P15A model .(No longer sold). I have old,(64yo), eyes and it is time for some new sights. The weapon has a 4-rail front guard and a handgrip. It has a flip-up rear sight.
Which Eotech sight would you recommend?
Will the standard front iron sight interfere with the Eotech sight picture?
Will it work at all?
I do not wish to buy a new flat upper receiver.
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks,
Lafitte:D

What kind of batteries do you like to keep in stock? CR123's or AA's? I prefer the eotechs that take the 123's (XPS AND EXPS models) myself as they take up less room on the upper. Although the 512 and 516 models take the readily available AA batteries.

I have not found that the front sight post on a MP15A interferes with my sight picture. Some models of Eotechs have different base heights which give you either a lower 1/2 or 1/3 cowitness. The quick detach mounts will usually place the sight higer, making the front sight less noticeable when looking through the optic.

I prefer the models which give the lower 1/3 cowitness, as you will only see the front sight in the lower 1/3 of the Eotechs glass. It is really up to you and what you prefer.

Even if you go with the AA model Eotech, I would recommend running lithium AA's unless you plan on changing your batteries frequently as I have had problems with alkalines leaking and don't trust them in expensive electronics.

Timely question because I just put a Eotech 512 on my M&P 15T. My eyes were also giving me trouble at the range. With glasses I can see the target perfectly, but the sights were blurry. Take the glasses off and just the opposite. With the Eotech and my daily wear glasses, both the target and the 65 MOA circle with 1 MOA aiming dot are sharp as a tack.

I have the EOTech 556.A65 and like it a lot. It uses CR123 batteries and gets about 800 hours of real time operation from them.

I don't care to see the front sight in my optic. So, I replaced the A2 sight with a low profile gas block.

I use an EOTech 512 A65. I had it on my 15-Sport, but transferred it over to a different rifle. I chose this model because it uses common AA batteries. The second reason I chose an EOTech is because my eyes can perceive the reticule without distortion. My astigmatism causes me to perceive distortion in LED red dot optics.

This is the best advice I can give: go to a store and look through a few different types of holographic and red-dot optics. Choose the one your eyes can see best.

I own a 15A and mount my Bushnell ACOG clone on the front on the receiver rail. The rear sight flips up and co-witnesses perfectly. I have no issue at all with the front tower. I even have a front sight tower on my AR's that I have mounted low power variables. In my opinion, AR's just don't look right without a sight tower unless the free floating handguard covers the gas block.

I have 2 of that model and older eyes also:) I put the 517 on one. I prefer the option for AA batteries, easier to find if emergencies. Image is sharp. Front sights are 1/3 co witness. On my other one I put a Leupold 1-4 Patrol scope, really love that:)

My Wife is not a gunner, but she really loves the 517 I put on it also.

512 has been awesome...i beat it up, it runs flawlessly and batteries are easy to find. I found mine on optics planet and used a coupon along with promo code and purchased it for $389, free shipping!
