So I found one of these at a decent price considering the times and decided to purchase. I know the stock is fixed/pinned, but didn't pay enough attention at the time to see if it could be unpinned and used as a collapsible one. Anybody know the answer to that? Also since the barrel has no compensator I was considering having it threaded and adding one. Any opinions on this?

I have one.

It sports a 17" (measured), semi heavy barrel, without flash suppressor.

I don't give a whit, about the lack of flash suppressor, as I feel like it is a bit quieter, without it.

I do NOT believe that you can "fix" the pinned stock.

I simply replaced the entire stock unit, stock nut, and all.

When you replaced yours did you replace the tube and the buffer/spring as well?

You should be good to go with the buffer and recoil spring as long as you are trading sliding stock for sliding stock. A-1 & A-2 fixed stocks are different with a longer buffer and spring.

The tube. More than likely you'll have to replace that too, depending. Depending on if it has the holes for the "normal" sliding stock to adjust in. Some fixed tubes have the needed holes, some have had none. Also depends on how bad the orginal tube gets "beat up" getting the sliding end off and un-pinned.

You can buy complete sliding stock kits. Just make sure you get the Mil-Spec.

I bought a complete unit. Springs, tube, and all.
