new to this whole forum thing so I hope I get it right, ordered the 15t around the 5th of april after a lot of research but im still second guessing my choice 811041 is the sku# im reading a lot about the barrel finishes being melonite but im not seeing it on this model? I know the rail and sights are not troy but to me its a easy swap to the geissele but what im wondering is this rifle a worthy one or are there parts that are a must to be swapped like internals? (like the barrel) or even bcg? mostly shooting target near and far and for a shtf gun too if the day ever comes. thanks in advance for ur help. payed $991 otd here in pa.

The 15t is a good rifle. it is worthy of a geissele trigger. Until you shoot it and really get to learn it I wouldnt think about changing a lot of things. M&P's have a good military style trigger, a little bit of polishing goes a long way, but an aftermarket trigger is a great investment. I cannot help you on the barrels, the new ones I dont have any experience with. But the words I hear is that they are good barrels. I have an older Sport, It has had some furniture changes, but as far as internals the only change has been the trigger and free floating the barrel.

I believe he's talking about swapping to the Geissele rail, not trigger. Nice rail but wouldn't be my first choice. As for the barrel and bcg, both are good to go and solid performers. I have the same barrel in my OR and it's the most accurate of my collection when using 55 grain ammo. The bcg has been fine for around 4,000 rounds and several mag dumps. You also got a great deal on the rifle. Relax and enjoy it. Solid AR, right out of the box, no changes necessary.

thanks for the info and reassurance and i am actually looking at the geissele rail and trigger, does anyone know if the upper is mil spec? i dont wanna spend the cash and have it not fit up right and i dont think it would look right on the old sp-1's, going to try and give s&w a call to find out. btw billyjack what would be your first choice? looked at the troy also and i did like it too. thanks-again

Yes, for all intensive purposes, the upper is milspec. I say that because as far as fit, it is, but I'm not sure about materials used. Lot's of guys running S&W uppers and lowers out there.

When it comes to rails, will you be doing the work yourself? The Super Modular comes with a proprietary barrel nut so it's a bit more work. Free float rails like the Troy, Samson and Rainier use the standard barrel nut so it's less work up front. Not a game changer but something to consider. I liked the Samson and I was lazy when I was shopping so I was looking for a rail that would simply bolt on to the existing nut. If your set on the Geissele, then a little extra work up front will give you what you want long term. Nothing wrong with that at all and from what I've read, it's a solid rail. What else would you expect from Geissele? I have the Samson and it's a great rail but given the lawsuit they are under by Troy, not sure I'd get another.

had a change of heart and went with the colt 6920 added the 9 inch troy free float so far and liking the gun any thoughts on this?

Intents and purposes....lol

It is a good gun, don't get too hung up on the barrel.

I put a Geissele SSA-E trigger in my T and love it.

As for rail, that wouldn't be my first choice either.

What other forum told you that the Smith wasn't good enough and that Colt is the true mil-spec rifle, blah blah blah?

Enjoy your rifle. Post pics when you are done customizing. Let us know how it shoots!
