Brand new gun, but after a few rounds (snap caps and live) it will fail to eject, and jams the next round against the casing, forcing me to drop the mag and empty the jammed rounds. I thought it might be a cheap ejector and replaced it with an Apex "Failure proof" ejector. Didn't help. I cleaned and oiled everything, but to no avail.

I love the gun, but this is frustrating! Any ideas!!?

I doubt opinions of how snap caps eject matters as there really made to soften the firing pin strike. How about mention the live ammo you have tried and how many rounds fired so far .

Hopefully none of your test ammo is steel case or cheapest fodder to be found !

Did the Apex ejector include a new spring? If not I would try replacing that.

When I had a similar problem with my P365 they replaced the whole upper half of the gun, slide, barrel and recoil spring when I shipped it back to the factory. If you have already tried replacing the spring I would put the original parts back in, verify it still fails and contact customer support. Sending a gun back is a hassle but trying to fix it yourself when you are not sure what is wrong is even more frustrating.

Edited to add: Hardluk1 is right about trying different ammo, particularly if you are using steel case ammo.

Try 124gr ammo to break the gun in. This is happening while shooting it too correct and with both magazines?

Always try the easiest, cheapest things first.

My lesson learned from my first M&P purchase: S&W puts heavy packing grease in the slide rails of newly shipped pistols, and that grease won't come off after a simple cleaning. It needs to be thoroughly, rigorously scrubbed. Did I say thorough? Rigorous?

My 9mm M&P Pro 5" wouldn't run at all - FTFs and FTEs every third or fourth round. Just before shipping it back to the Mother Ship, I stumbled across a thread that warned me about the thick packing grease, and how to remove it.

Flitz'd it. Hoppe'd it. Flitz'd it again. Hoppe'd it again. Then ran the slide across the frame about 200 times (without the barrel assembly).

Then tried to shoot it. Mine worked perfectly after that 30-minute cleaning session. Now I use that same cleaning routine on every new pistol I buy. Never had any other issues.

Striker fired guns are designed to get very dirty and still run, so something is definitely wrong here.


Like others have said here you should also try some other ammo and never go by what snap caps do in your gun as they are only for dry fire. They are not for function testing your gun.

Telling us what kind of ammo you were using may help a bit also.

Some pistols can be finicky with ammo sometimes. Sucks because they shouldn't be but sometimes they just are, especially with cheaper foreign ammo.

I've never had this problem but I keep reading that some need to start out breaking their gun in with 124's instead of 115's if that's what you were using?

Also sounds like your "jam" is not really a "jam" but a FTE (Failure to extract)

If you've gone through two different extractors (factory and new apex) then it sounds like your chamber may be the culprit here.

Get a flashlight and check for burrs in there ect:

You could also take the gun apart and with just the slide and no barrel, and take a round and slide it up under the extractor to make sure you have proper extractor tension. It should stay in there and not fall out on its own when you shake it a little.

A real easy test to perform is to clean it (chamber and barrel) thoroughly and Just drop a round in there and push it in with your finger. It should just fall out when you tip the barrel up. This will also tell you if you have a tight chamber or something.

I would never try to "fix" a balky new gun beyond a thorough cleaning, lubing and break in. If that doesn't fix it, I'd video record failures, contact the mother ship, and sent it back. It's their job to make it right, and anything an end user might due to fix something like this (beyond cleaning, dry firing, and shooting) could give them cover to void the warranty.

I disagree. I see no point in sending a gun back if the issue is something that I can fix myself. That said, I'm not going to do anything drastic.

Did the OP mean extractor when he/she typed "ejector"?

I'm still not clear on whether the gun has been fired yet. If it has, what ammo was used? If it is cheap 115 gr, I would be looking to try something else before changing parts or sending it back. Some of the post-COVID 115 gr FMJ is miserably downloaded, and a new gun with new springs may not work too well with it.

Just want to virtue signal? Please point out where I ridiculed his lack of knowledge, stated that we shouldn't help (especially when I helped @ post #5), etc.... You painted a whole entire long false narrative from me posting that maybe he's a gun newbie who posted a drive-by post?

I posted that seeing several members, including myself, were asking him questions and getting into the weeds, and then it dawned on me that we were basically talking to ourselves at this point. Makes more sense to wait until the OP comes back (if he comes back) to continue this discussion as we don't even have enough information at this point. I, like others, don't even know if he ever actually shoot the gun or has he only been racking ammo through it. Makes no sense for the thread to go on several pages if the OP hasn't been back.

This is a new gun to me. I have a full sized Canik but I wanted something something smaller, and the M&P fits the bill perfectly!

Glad to hear that the gun is working for you! I have the same model with a little over 2000 rounds through it with no problem. Just continue shooting 124 grain ammo and keep it good clean when your done with the range session. I'm sure it will continue to come around for you.

This is a new gun to me. I have a full sized Canik but I wanted something something smaller, and the M&P fits the bill perfectly!

To bad you did not know to bring several quality brands and bullet weights of ammo with you when trying out a new to you handgun and brands to try but that's part of the learning process . On a 9mm that would be firing 25 rounds of the HP ammo I hope to carry in it after a complete cleaning and lube job.

I tend to start with a mid weight bullet and a premium brand of ammo even a box of +P for 9mm in a full size pistol. I also do not top off a fully loaded mag and a Plus 1 carry into a pistol with the slide forward. That just requires that first round fired to use part of the energy to push the slide back over a top of a fully loaded mag . You can feel the difference racking a pistol to chamber that first round and one with the slide locked back on a full mag , chamber the cartridge then rack it just to feel the difference . Now after a couple hundred rounds have been fired you might try what ever fodder you still have that did not run well and see if it well run.

Some pistols like Kahr are famous for tight chambers along with heavy recoil springs and not functioning with standard 115gr ammo regardless of the brand when new but after a some 124gr or +P ammo has been run threw it may run fine with most light bullet loads If it passes a plunk test .

Learn to PLUNK Test a few cartridges ammo too . It has to drop into the chamber properly and drop out . Best way to find out of spec ammo that can cause you problems .
