Well I purchased a new m&p 22 compact a couple of weeks ago and I'm having issues with how sensitive the mag button is on this gun. I'm constantly dropping mags from the button getting touched or bumped while in the field. Does anyone know if they have come up with a stiffer spring? I thought about changing the button over to the right side of the gun....does anyone else have this issue with this gun?

No such issues with mine, 16 months and many thousands of rounds through it.

Sorry to hear of your issues. I have had no problem at all with my Compact 22. I'm sure S&W will make it right!

I think if they offered a stiffer spring for the mag eject button then my problem would be solved. I've sent S&W an email but no response.

I have the M&P22 full size; I have the same issue. THAT is why I signed up for the forums. I have had this trouble ever since the wife bought it. "great wife". BUT, I cannot trust it to ever have the magazine locked in place. Even when I carry it in a holster, just lay it down, any given time that button will get brushed and magazine ejected. Simply CANNOT depend it with this issue.

A .22 is a target / practice weapon. I don't understand the "can't depend on it" comment. Call S&W customer service and discuss a resolution, but if I had huge issues with a .22, I would sell it to someone for scrap and buy something else.

Aw; don't be a hater. This is one of many. choices. Do you not have choices? Besides the price of shells; If you are walking in the fields, I don't necessarily carry my .40-weight issues, I don't necessarily carry my .357 'hog-leg'-size and weight issues. I don't necessarily carry shotgun, rifle, or... I have a variety of choices. But when I carry, I want to know that the magazine is in place. but, to each their own perhaps one day YOU will have choices of carry.

I joined this thread for the exact same reason.....hoping someone has found a solution to this problem. I'm on my third holster now which covers the eject button but every now and then I still accidently hit it. I finally called customer service and they acted like they have never heard of this before. They mailed me a new eject button for free stating that it could be the button that is not molded to the metal correctly where the spring snaps in place. Looks fine to me......

I did take the advice I read on another forum and I switched the button over to the right side of the gun which eliminates my thumb from brushing over the button. I've measured and it takes like a mm of pressure and the clip ejects. That is insane. The button sticks out way to far to be that sensitive. I love the way this gun shoots but I hate to lose on reselling it to someone else. But If I lose another $30 clip then its going on the market. A stronger spring is my solution buy customer service did not have one. They also would not help me out on replacing the clip I lost in the woods the first day I used the gun.....

I was not suggesting that the poster change caliber. I love the .22, and used it on Scout Camp ranges for years to train many hundreds of kids. I'm not a "hater".

I do restate that I have had no such mag drop issues. I use a Galco OWB that is intended for a Shield - it works fine.

But I also have other .22 pistols that I feel are as good or better for that walk in the woods, and are likely better quality. The .22 Compact is a good practice pistol, and it goes to the range in the bag each time. It also handles standard velocity ammo. I bought it for what it is. I have bought other .22s that had various issues, and sold them as questionable to folks who need parts or like to tinker.
