M&P 22 compact question

Ok, so the last time I cleaned it then took it to the range it stopped locking open after firing the last round.
Any ideas ? I just field stripped it then reassembled it, everything looks okay so I'm really puzzled. This has never happened to me before

Did you try a different mag?

Does it lock back when you manually rack it?

What ammo did you use?

With the gun empty insert an empty magazine. Pull slide back. See if it locks back.
If yes than its likely bad rounds or a limp wrist. "for some reason the slide may not be sliding back all the way".
If no, slowly pull slide back and look at where the magazine follower pushes up on the slide lock to see if it pushes it up all the way. "Week spring or something bent or dirty"

Actually no, I didn't try a different mag, I can't believe I did even think of that.

Yes it locks back when I manually rack the slide.

I used Federal ammo, it's the same type ammo I've used for years.

I'm thinking & hoping it's just the mag. I'm going to take a look at them today & give them a good cleaning. thanks

Thanks, I'm thinking now that is a mag problem, hopefully the mag just needs a good cleaning

I took the mags apart & cleaned them but still no help, in fact it got worse, not only would it not lock after last shot, but it stove piped a couple times then stopped feeding altogether. Took the gun all apart & scrubbed it real good, carefully oiled it and that did the trick. There was a brass bristle on the table from my brush when I was done, not sure if it was from today or if one was stuck in there from the last time I cleaned it. So anyway everything is good now.

Awesome. Be aware of led build up at the muzzle. Only issue I've had with mine. Of coarse that's after about 400 rounds. Thunder bolt 22 of course was the reason. Good brass brush all was good. Happy shootin! And thanks for the update.

no offense, but this makes me think you squirreled up the magazine springs somehow. FYI, I never take a mag apart unless it's been dropped in mud or similar muck. You might have the springs in wrong or not fully seated.

Of course, there could also be a flaw with the pistol. Try different ammo. Your federal may not be driving the slide back all the way or with enough oomph.

Mine stopped locking back. It was heavy wax buildup on the forward inside of the mag from the bullet coatings. Scraped it out good, all returned to normal.

Thunderbolts really messed up my compact and my victory. Never again. I never shoot more than 10 of them out of every 50 round session now. That seems to work. It will just take longer to get rid of the Thunderbolts that way but I'll be able to use them up.

That was a problem with mine as well, could've very well been the problem

I hear you, I try to not but Thunderbolts because of how dirty they are, although I do have a lot on hand because of having trouble finding .22LR ammo. When you can't find any except for Thunderbolts, well, that's what you buy. I normally only stick with Federal or Winchester
