M&P 22 Compact

I am struggling with this I have an SR22 which I believe is just about the same size and trying to question myself exactly why I need it?

I'm in the same boat as you. I LOVE my Ruger SR22. Have had only a handful of misfires in a couple thousand rounds.



I now own the M&P 22 Compact and it's a super fun firearm also.



As a first firearm choice, I would still recommend the SR22 for a couple of reasons: more customizable on grips and floor plates, bright red bar when ambidextrous safety is disengaged, visible hammer, and double-action firing option. These were more important to me with a young family shooting.



That said, I am having an absolute ball with this Smith! It's just a joy to shoot! If you aren't into shooting 22s, maybe you pass... but I can't be happier so far. It's not *better* than, just *different* than the Ruger!

Looks like a nice pistol.

For those have one, how would this compare grip and size wise to the Shield?

This might make a great range trainer to go along with a Shield.

i know could compare the specs on Smith and Wesson site, but thought somebody may own both.

I own both, and as was mentioned earlier, they compare favorably to each other. Not identical though.



Height is the same with the Shield extended magazine. Grip is shaped slightly different, but has the same overall "finger wrap" distance. If your hand fits the Shield it will fit the 22C nicely. The 22C is significantly lighter of course... especially loaded up with ammo.



I think it's the closest thing to train with, but it's not a 22 version of the Shield. It's truly a smaller version of the full size M&P with the beavertail and some other aesthetics slightly different from the Shield.

I've got about 1,500 rounds down the pipe with mine, no issues whatsoever. Picked it up months ago from PSA for $250, at that price it was a no brainer. It's a keeper.

I was given one for Christmas by my buddy (received it in Oct.) so far it has eaten a few thousand rounds of every brand around thirty years ago as I am shooting up a bunch of the old stuff on the shelf. This pistol is a performer and I prefer it to my full size M&P .22. Other than a few FTF (ammo) it has run flawlessly.

I have a M&P 22 Compact and I love it. It shoots flausly using 40 grain bullets. Much better than my Sig Mosquito.

Mags are $32. I suppose magazines are priced high for now since they are needed in high demand new production pistols. If so then they should come down in price over time as supply catches up with demand.

I agree. I just shot mine for the first time today. It ate up 100 rounds of mini mags an then another 50 old mixed rounds from a bucket of 22's someone gave me years ago without a single hiccup. Really like this pistol.

Have a MP22& a MP22c

I had a sig mosquito, it would only shoot CCIs just like the man. Said. Lucked out and traded it even for a MP 22. I love that gun, it eats anything! As sone as the MP22 compact came out I had to have one! Order one at my LGS for 350 OTD. Great gun, my wife now took it as her EDC. She likes it better than my MP9C or MP40C, go figure.

I like it but it does have an odd feel, the trigger feels small. A range buddy has one and we ran 5 different brands of ammo through it and it ran great. I would advise holding one before buying it.

The little Smith & Wesson is way more appealing to me than either the Ruger or the Walther, and the reports that I have read have been very positive. If I could justify having another compact pistol in .22lr I would be buying one of these.

Yeah it is my first Smith product in 20 years. It is ok but screams cheap
Plastic sights
Plastic trigger
Plastic spring caputure recoil rod
Concealed hammer ( cheaper that way )
Roll pins , not solid pins
Mag well has high hollow rails not solid rails


Bet the profit margin is huge on this one.


Well it will be another 25 years before I buy another if ever

I have had an M&P22 Compact for several months and have put several hundred rounds of different type ammo thru it - a great gun. I highly recommend it. It shoots well, it is easy to disassemble and clean - and it is fun to shoot! Check out Cook's Holsters, they make several types of kydex holsters specifically for the M&P22 Compact. I have the OWB model and it works great.

I have had handguns since 1970, and they have constantly been on a march toward cheap, plastic, junk.

They work but really , pass down to your son guns ......not.

This gun works, but is a throw a way when it breaks junker.
Tell me how how I am wrong.

I had to glue the sights
Boil and bend the frame to fit slide well
Grind sights to shoot Point of Aim
Junk that works is still junk

Did not even come with a wrench to remove the barrel "nut"
Old Smiths came with a decent screw driver......remember or are you too young ?

Huh. Wonder why I (nor it seems, anyone else) had to glue the sights, or boil the frame, or grind the sights?

I've had mine since the 3rd week of Sep, and have been banging away with it almost every weekend. Suppressed and unsuppresed. No failures of any kind. I'd like the trigger to be a bit crisper, but that's about it.

BTW, my Glock has a plastic trigger. And plastic sights. Seems to work for them.

Your post seems to have a lot of "You kids get off my lawn!!" feel to it.
