No pics yet... but I just ordered Dawson fiber optic sights for my M&P22. I'm going to also try an experiment. I ordered a set of Talon Grips that I'm going to try to install on the M&P22. The Talon's are sized for a standard full size M&P pistol so I'm thinking that they should probably fit without significant need for modification.

looking for mods

Hi, I was looking at the talon grips too. Did you get the rubber or granulated. Post pics when you get them done and tell us what you think. There are youtube vids with the talon grips on a M&P9 ,the size is almost identical should fit just right.

The Talon grips showed up today... I did not get the granulated version so I got the rubberized grips. Matter of fact I just finished installing them a little while ago. Also tried an experiment. I had picked up a bottle of Krylon Short Cuts paint in Glow Orange. So..... I grabbed a toothpick and changed the color of the front sight to Orange.

Not bad... but I'm hoping my new Dawson Fiber Optic front sight shows up before my next planned range visit.

Looks like a good fit, do you feel a difference in the grip. I like the sights too, did you drill dimples in the rear sights or just put two dots on the blade. Like the red dot for the safety, glad I saw your picture, wasn't sure where to put it. Thanks for posting the pictures, there are alot of M&P22 owners out there waiting for something to do to their guns. I will post pics as soon as I do one of these. Thanks again, Jesse.

If you try adding the red dot for the safety, quadruple check the location you plan to place the dot. One of mine is slightly off so it's visible at all times. Not a big deal to me but annoying nonetheless.

The Talon grips fit OK... and yes it is a much improved feel than stock.

Place the red dot in front of the thumb safety not behind it so when your off safe it shows and it's totally blocked with the safety on. I would drill a smell dimple to add the paint to. george

Thanks for the tip.

Well my Dawson sights arrived today...

Installing the front sight required a bit of filing but only took about 15 minutes to install. But oh my... what a tedius task fitting the rear sight was! I would swear I was filing the front, rear, and bottom of that dovetail for the better part of an hour...

The DP Rear sight is actually new... it just showed up on Dawsons web site in the last few days. I ordered the wide notch sight available for M&P models.

DP Rear Sight Smith and Wesson M&P Fiber Optic Inserted Fixed Rear Sight with Wide Notch, Match with .180 or .160 Tall Front Sight #018023 Detail Page

In one respect it sort of annoyed me when I noticed that M&P22-specific sight showing up on their web site. The other day I spent 15 minutes on the phone talking to one of their people about which rear sight to get for my M&P22... who never once mentioned that they were about to release a M&P22-specific rear sight. Oh well... it's installed and seems to work.

One thing that impressed me about the Dawson sights, by the way, was that they came with extra strands of fiber optic in both red and green. Very thoughtful of them... Kudos to Dawson Precision!

I would be annoyed too! I was wondering with all the fitting you said you had to do if it was a regular M&P rear sight. The person on the phone should have sold you the correct one or at least told you to hold off untill they were "officially" for sale! The person you delt with must not have known their product line very well. But at least your happy with what you have so thats saying something I guess.

NEW SIGHTS AVAILABLE FOR THE M&P22

These new sights became available for the M&P22. Thought I'd give you all a heads up.

I'm still debating what to get for mine. So far I've seen the HI-Viz, Dawson, these and the 2 dot rear from the 9mm version.
For you that have put the rear 2 dot sights from your bigger guns on this one, are you satisfied with them, without the elevation that the factory sights come with, are you still able to sight the gun in. Thanks,

I also like the round barrel lug I see on some of the guns. I think on the org. barrels as they came from the factory it would be easy to hit tap or somehow mess up the front of the barrel crown. This would seem to protect that and gives it a more aggressive look. Link on where to get this part and how much is the cost please? George

JaPes,
Please supply the link "URL"part number of that screw on barrel lug. I love the look of it. think it makes the weapon look gnarly and much more aggressive then it really is. Love the look! George

That is a suppressor adapter. Some M&P22s came with one, most did not. All will accept one.

Here is a link to one of the many manufacturers : GEMTECH

eBay often has several at great prices.

Great grips, feels good, these are the rubber texture for the M&P 9 & 40 and they fit the M&P 22 perfect.

Here are some more links for one of these, I checked and any of these made for the Walther p22 will also fit the M&P 22, so you just search for Walther p22 thread adapter and find one you like. I also like the look.

http://www.tacticalinc.com/walther-p22-thread-adapterbrand-flash-hider-combo-p-433.html here is a review on the last one, he used it on a M&P22, so we know it fits. (I purchased this combination for my S&W M&P 22 and it was an excellent choice. The flash hider looks great on the gun and the added weight all but removes muzzle rise and recoil from a gun that is already a an awesome shooter. At the sale price of $37.99 this was a great deal.)

If you plan on just using it just for the mean gnarly look, ebay has alot of them in the $20 range. Hope this helps

Just browsing and noticed a few of you removed the thumb safety. Is it very hard to do? Is there some sort of write up or information on here about the process?

Oh and the two tone looks great!

thumb safety

Found this on another site, At the rear of the frame, drive out the roll pin. Pull out the internal frame far enough that you can pluck the thumb safeties off. Just make sure the the lever the thumb safety is attached to on the left side is in the down position. And the factory thumb safety plugs from S&W do no fit the M&P22. Different specs.

Mods so far are just removing magazine safety and cutting off thumb safety levers. Would like to machine a new bar and make plugs for the thumb safety sometime. Going to paint bar style sight on rear sight blade today.

Post pictures when you are done, would like to see if its something I would like to do. Thanks, Jesse

So here's mine so far. Mag safety removed. Stock thumb safety bar is in place with the thumb levers cut off. I painted the rear sight. I did it real quick so I can see how I like it. If I don't like I can remove the paint easily. If I do like I will remove it and sand the area a little so the paint will be more permanent. And I'll probably spray a little clear on for protection.

Air8,
I'm not they type to cut off my thumb safety just yet as I;m not trying to conform to another M&P in a upper cal yet.. It conforms nicely to my Colt 1911's with the safety as is so I like it there.. I am looking for more ideas for my rear sights and you have come up with something interesting to me.. I had seen others use white paint on the hole rear blade and for me I think that would be just to much white.. but your way is interesting I see you left enough space on each side of the white to equal the same sight picture of the front sights when centered and on target.. Let me know how well you like your setup when you use it for a bit.. Thanks for the ideas and pictures! George
