M&P 22 preferred ammo

I've put nearly a thousand rounds thru mine. CCI, Aguilla, Federal, Remington, Winchester. The Win 333s were the worst performers, but nothing more serious than FTEs.

I just got the Aguila Super Max delivered yesterday and will shoot them tomorrow after work...should have some answers after that.

By and large mine seems to like round nose of any velocity and has most problems with HP, and the Winchesters are the worse for FTE. Been using the Centruion (made by Aguila) 40 gr RN 1280 fps the most (works great), but just got some Mini-Mags and the Super Max which will be the next several thousand rounds.

Just tried the Super Max

I just got back from the range and ran 200 rounds of the Aguila Super Max copper plated round nose (1750 fps) and I loved it. It worked better than any thing I've shot to date. It felt closer to my 9mm with the hotter ammo (well as close as a 22 could) and it had great groupings. It's all I'm going to shoot from now on. :)

How clean is it, after the range trip? Is it closer to CCI Mini-Mags, or Remington Golden? Just curious.

I would say that it is close to the mini-mags (round nose) and a step better than the remington golden bullets which never functioned as well in my M&P, all I could attribute it to is that they were hollow points. As for how clean it is, I didn't feel like the clean up was any different (I clean every time i shoot), but I would say that cloud of smoke was maybe a little bigger. But performance was great for me. BTW I grabbed mine from AIMSURPLUS.COM for 39.50/brick, and have seen them going other places for $89 (like at the-armory.com right now).

Gunbot?

I am having trouble even finding any .22LR. I have called every shop in town (VA) have everyone says they are sold out.

Have you checked out the Gunbot website?

Of course, most ammo prices are pretty high nowadays, even .22, but sometimes you can snag a bargain there. Especially if you can catch it before the other guys do.

You may have to pay for shipping, but you don't have to pay tax (usually). It can balance out nicely that way.

Range Report

Shot my M&P22 this morning.
  • 100 rounds of Aguila Super Max copper plated round nose (1750 fps) - fed and fired flawlessly.
  • 50 rounds of CCI mini-mags - also flawless.
  • 100 rounds of Remington Thunderbolt - 95 rounds perfect. Then one jammed after firing. The empty casing was still lodged in the end of the barrel.

Yep she like's high velocity ammo for sure CCI mini mags, winchester white box 555's or 333's, Federal blue box 525 works well in mine too... But this day and age where I live I have not even seen a brick of .22lr ammo in well over 6 months so I'll take anything and clean the gun more re chamber if a low powered round is encountered.. In other words anything that will go bang! Easier for me to shoot 9mm or .45's not that they're cheap but at least once in awhile I can get them.. George

I have put about 100 rounds of Remington Thunderbolt through
mine and it ran 100%. Accuracy could be better but that could be my eyes or the sights which seem to suck or both.

Hi everyone, litle question from the Netherlands
Mine is ordered (still waiting for the fire arm permission, takes about 8 weeks here...) and I was wondering if the CCI stinger would be ok? Is there a max for this gun?
Tx in advance,
Tarkan

Stingers will run the gun great...

just picked up a new m&p .22 and have ran 124 rnds of winchester 555 36grn 1280 fps flawlessly. i hope it stays that way, i have a lot of it..lol

I found that to be great ammo for the M&P .22 no issues with that ammo at all.. Same stuff comes ini 333 boxes if you can't find the 555.. I have not see that ammo here in almost a year...22lr is all dried up in NH where I live anyway.. George

M&P Ammo vs feed issues

I am having trouble with the first two shots misfiring. I thought it was the ammo because I shot 100 rounds of CCI Min Mags thought it, One first shot misfire. Any other ammo, Federal, Remington, all cause me problems.
Seems as though gun does not like the first two shells. Either doesn't eject or won't feed second and third shell, after that works great. Any comments from you all??

I've shot Winchester power points. Cci standard and Winchester sub sonics with no ftf to date.
Great little gun.

What do you mean by misfiring?Click and no bang? Make sure you don't slap in the mag with a open slide as this will cause the mag lips to open up a tad and cause feeding issues. From now on when changing mags just push the mag in till you hear a click! That said try a new mag. If that runs fine you can adj. the mag lips a tad in on the mags that are not feeding the first few rounds. But there can be lot's of causes. Is the gun new? Did you clean all the factory grease out of it before shooting it? How many rounds gone through it all tole? Is the chamber clean? Did you do a plop test? Plop test with the gun taken down point the barrel down drop a round in the chamber, you should hear a plop with the round fully seated on it's own. Now just point the barrel up and the round should fall free from the barrel chamber on it's own.. If it don't Clean the chamber well and do test again till it does.. George

Remington Thunderbolts will shoot a 5/8" group indoors at 20yds.
It doesn't like Federal Match at all. Poor groups and FTE sometimes.
Aguila Rifle Match shoot about 1 inch groups cycles fine.
The Federal match shoot tight groups out of my Single Six so it is not the ammo.
