Backstory - I bought my brand new M&P 22 back at the end of March. I live in the People's Republic of Maryland, so its still in residence at my LGS/range for at least another month. Luckily I can visit it whenever I'd like. I've got a couple hundred rounds through it already, and it seems to be getting more accurate as I break it in.

I've tried carefully many times, with just my fingers, to field strip it while at the range. I can rotate the takedown lever, but it will not pull out at all. Can anyone give me some advice for how to safely pull it out (with no damage) so that I can field strip it?

Thanks a lot.

That's just sad. What is the hold-up? Handgun permit?

Nope. Waiting for the Maryland state police background check. Everyone is rushing to get something before the new anti gun law is enacted on October 1st

Mine was very tight as well. Careful not to break it, many have. Don't pull up on the end of the lever it just binds it till it loosens up some. I pried mine up with a piece of plastic for auto trim removal the first time. Firm but even pressure. After you get it out lube it and repeat a dozen times or so and you should be good to go. Good luck!

I used my pocket knife to pry it up gently the first few times but after that it loosened up

Just a reminder . . . . the takedown lever is designed to remain captive. No attempt should be made to remove it completely from the frame. If you over-rotate and pull the takedown lever too far, it can come all the way out.
