My M&P 22Compact Sight Blade fly off at the outdoor ranch, I try look for it, but no luck. Did you guys have problem like that on your Compact 22? It's that 1 piece spring under the sights blade?

I call Smith, they are send me the sights blade and spring, also they send me the sears block pin, because the pin keep coming out from the left side of the frame under the safety lock, Did you guys have problem like that on your compact?

Lesson learned for everyone else. The rear sight elevation adjustment screw is not held captive, so be careful of overadjusting upward. If you lock the slide back and look undernearth, you can see the adjustment screw's thread position.

As far as the loose roll pin on the frame, no problems with mine.

Yes, I had that happen on mine last Saturday on the first time out shooting it (just purchased it that same morning) - We shot maybe 100-150 rounds and then I saw the rear sight blade fly away!

We looked for it and after awhile my wife found it, so we packed up and brought it home.

Here is the sight put back together ( the hex screw on the left adjusts the sight and the spring is located on the right of the sight blade (you can't see it here because it is inside the sight)):

I determined that the hex screw on the left was VERY loose fitting in the sights casting and, fortunately, we did not loose the hex screw at the range. I figured that the extreme looseness of the screw allowed it to work itself out (leftward) until the rear sight BLADE was free enough to take flight when the slide cycled. Here is the screw that was loose:

I "fixed" the screw by applying a dab of low strength Locktite to the threads so that there will be enough resistance to keep it in place, while still allowing it to be turned when necessary to adjust the sight with the 1/16" hex wrench that was included with the M&P22 Compact package.

Hope this will help - I think S&W needs to examine the screw size that they are putting into that sight casting!

I just took my new M&P Compact to the range, and was never able to get the windage correct. It was shooting to the right, when i adjusted the set screw counter clockwise, was able to get it close, but the left dot was half covered. The set screw when moved that far to the left, keeps falling out. S&W has a problem with the rear sight. I guess I will have to send it back. It came with locktight on the set screw, but the sights were not adjusted??

compact 22 rear sight issue

I had posted in another thread in this forum what I think is the issue. The plastic sight has a "bump" near the bottom of the blade that fits a track in the housing. There is a keyway in the housing to allow the blade installation from above. On mine, the front sight was off enough that I kept adjusting the rear sight / windage to the left (where the left dot was partially hidden), and far enough to align the blade bump with the installation keyway. That would allow the blade to fly out - twice for me. I had the gunsmith where I bought it tweak the front sight so I could move the rear over, away from the install keyway. Actually had them do it twice as the first time was not enough. When I first figured it out, I could see the front sight seemed centered on the slide, but not the barrel. Now the front sight is moved enough (more than I would have thought it needed) so the rear is pretty close to center and things are shooting much better - with no flying parts. I had some decent groupings, but I think the "loose" screw mentioned by others started to affect things as I did have to recenter it several mags later. A little Loctite coming up and I expect things to be good from then on out. Try getting that front adjusted and see if it works for you like it did for me. Sorry for the long posting...

So glad that I got back on this forum to see any problems with my new M&P .22 Compact that I picked up at Scheels yesterday morning. It has the external knurled extension on the front. Tried to disassemble it and found out that I had to remove the adapter on the barrel inside to remove the slide. You tube had some videos showing that problem. I gave that adapter a shot of Gibbs and 15 minutes later I easily removed it with the small wrench provided. Cleaned all the threads and used choke tube lube to reassemble it. I will keep an eye on the rear sight blade going bye bye. Think I will shoot it over a large plastic garbage can just so I can retrieve it. ha Going to do that tomorrow.
