With a loaded chamber I can not get a full magazine to fully seat.It stops about 1/8 inch from fully seating and has solid resistance.I am leary of trying to force it.It seats fine with 5 rounds in it.Any help welcome

TM - Does it work okay with the other magazine? Just curious, if it works with the other, call Smith. Sounds like something is not right inside the magazine.

Other question (second thought), the magazine allows you to load the 6th round, but you are saying the pistol will not allow you to seat the loaded 6 round magazine. OR the magazine won't allow you to load the 6th round? Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse the issue, but I read your post again, and I then realized it might be more than my first suggestion!

Disassemble. Make sure there is only one follower in there. Let it sit loaded with 6 in there for a few weeks.

I forgot I started that thread! This is still an issue, although it has improved somewhat. I seem to have more trouble with FMJ ball ammo than tapered cone bullets.

I was out shooting it a couple of weeks ago and had 2 straight jams on the last round of the magazine. I disassembled the mag and found the spring had become coil bound about half way up (wire inside the wire). This was causing inadequate preload on the follower and not allowing it to align the last cartridge for smooth feed to the chamber. If the follower doesn't seat all the way to the top stop, then it will not lock the slide back after the last round is discharged.

My springs are slightly twisted when removed. This may be normal, but it may increase likelihood of coil bind, or getting the wire bunched up between the cap plate and the lower edges of the follower.
