Purchased a 40 Shield on March 26th, fired less than 50 rounds and it started jamming. Anyone have any insights on why?
Thank you.

Make sure you did a good lube on the 7 contact points. What jammed? I always polish the feed ramp on all my pistols. I sanded and smoothed all the magazine followers.

It will fire and the slide stays open as if there are no shells left. It does need a lubing.

Clean it, lube it good, and try it again. BTW - you didn't specify what kinds of jams, failure to feed, extract, etc.

Make sure your thumb is not interfering with slide stop. That would be my first guess. Ask someone else to shoot it and see if they have same problem.

Do everything already mentioned as they are basic things that should always be done/checked. Try shooting without a mag - single shot. Then also try different magazines. Being a tiny thing I'd go with a firm grip and watch that you aren't tripping the catch.

I cleaned it, lubed it, polished the feed ramp and used a tighter grip. Fired 2 shots and the "slide"? stayed open as if the magazine was empty.
Oh yeah, this is my first handgun.

Well, went out and shot a few. It seemed every 3rd shot would get hung up. But, so far, so good. Thank you all for your help and guidance. I appreciate it very much.

Have someone else shoot it & see what happens. 40 is a pretty stout round for a first pistol. If the other shooter has trouble call Smith. If the other shooter doesn't have trouble practice more. Make sure that you're using factory ammo & not reloads.

My M&P 9c had a problem with the slide stop leaver locking the slide back with rounds in the magazine early on along with some extraction issues. Furthermore the slide lockblever was so tight it would not release without an extreme amount of pressure. Don't know what caused it but it was fixed under warranty. If the problem persists with someone else shooting your pistol, then contact customer service to arrange for it to be fixed.

It has happened when my boyfriend shot it as well. But since I've shot it yesterday it's working ok. Time will tell. Thank you all.

It may get better with more rounds through. Tolerances tend to be tight. Keep it cleaned and lubed. I load a couple of rounds and see about function. Load a couple more and note what round is hanging. If a pattern is found then a solution could be found. Hopefully, it will just shoot itself free.
