I just got my new M&P 40 the other day. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet because of shoulder surgery. I have a question though, I was just trying to load the two magazines and I can only get 8 or 9 cartridges to load. Am I doing something wrong? I also notice on the side of magazine M&P 40 and under that it says .357.
Thanks for my ignorance in advance I'm sure i'm missing something really simple here.:o lol

the 40 magazine will also work for 357 rounds. As far as your mag, do you have a 15 or 10 round mag. They are tight, as I have the 15 rounder and the last 2 is usually pretty tough. Maybe with your shoulder issues look at getting an upula loader, I have one and use it every time.

just my shoulder giving me trouble. just had surgery this past thursday still a little weak. lol

it's a 15 round mag but i can only get 9 in it(either one of them)

cemeb4dk's suggestion of a loader is good advice. My MP40 gets very snug around 10 or 11 rounds on the way to fully loaded with 15 rounds. You need to develop increased thumb strength (repetitive loading) or get a loader to make it easier on yourself. I would assume in time the mag will break in making it easier. My MP was my first semi-auto. I was surprised how hard it was to squeeze 15 rounds into the mag until I practiced and became accustomed to loading it.

Your question prompted me to perform a test. I unloaded my 15 shot clip and asked my wife to reload it. It wasnt easy but she loaded all 15 rounds. She is right handed and she said it hurt her left shoulder. She is a small woman but she and I lift weights 4 times a week and she is pretty stout for her petite size. After she loaded the MP I then handed her my Taurus Model 85 (5 shot hammer less revolver) and she loaded it. I then asked her to try and rack the slide of the MP. She barely could do it. I asked her "now, do you want a Shield or a 642?" She definitely wants the 642.

Thanks Steeley Dan, I'm sure I've got to work on all my strength, shoulders and arms over the coming months. I had my left shoulder operated on in September and my right shoulder just this past thursday. I did finally get all 15 loaded in both mags. THanks for input.
Have a Happy New Year!!

Just browsing through old threads and came across this one. Sorry for the late responce.
To make loading magazines a lot easier get a Uplula Universal magazine loader. I saw one advertised on Amazon recently. That thing has spoiled me!
Also you might want to order a 357 Sig barrel from Midway. The S & W barrel only cost around $90.00. I like the versatility of being able to use either caliber.

thanks

thanks for all the responses, I bought me a UPlula loader, my fingers and shoulder is happy, happy , happy. :D

Congrats on your M&P40! I have the 40c as well as the full size and can tell you that you will love shooting it if you haven't already :)

My M&P40 was purchased as part of a Range & Carry kit and they include the Uplula magazine loader as part of the kit along with a BladeTech holster and magpouch holder and three magazines. I tried to load the mags by hand and it was a real PITA, so I tried the Uplula and I was very impressed with how well it worked. Here in NY we are limited to 10 round magazines ;-( and I don't think I could have gotten the 10th round into the mags w/o the Uplula! Don't leave home without it!
