M&P 40c or 4013 TSW?

I was all set to pick up an M&P 40c this weekend, when I stumbled accross the 4013TSW after a buddy said I should look into it. I only saw it on the net, not with my own eyes.

I like the ease of use on the M&P. It feels decent in my hand, certainly better than a glock, but not spectacular. The 4013 has the same capacity, is a little heavier (which I don't mind at all), and looks to be about the same size.

I used to have a CS9, and really liked it except for the grip was a tad too short. How does this grip compare? I held a 4040pd, but did not bite on it because I want a little more capacity. Are they that similar in the grip department?

I really don't like plastic guns, but I have come to accept that they have their place. I do love a metal pistol. However, I do not like a slide mounted thumb safety, so If I did go with the 4013 I would have it changed to decock only. My preference is for a double/single action over a striker fired action like the M&P. Obviously, both have likes/dislikes. Neither of these is perfect, but I am having a hard time deciding which one is best suited for me, so I am looking for opinions. I know that no one else can decide for me, just looking for advice. I have also checked out pretty much every other similar pistol and have decided against them for various reasons. Any comparison photos with the 4013 and any other pistol would be appreciated and would help with a reference. Thank you.

4013TSW, on trigger alone. Plus the 4013TSW wont rust or drop its mags. Good looking while doing all that too. Accurate and reliable.

Or you could pay alot of money for the plastic gun, then pay more money for aftermarket parts, to get a useable trigger. Which, for the asking price, it should have been manufactured with in the first place.

Good luck! Regards 18DAI.

Since I am a fan of the TDA trigger system in the 4013TSW, that is what I would go with. Also, you can always pick up a M&P 40C later, 4013TSW's will only become harder to find in the future. The M&P line is great, but the 3rd gens are something special.

For me, I ended up picking up a 4566TSW over a M&P 45, at this point still getting used to the 4566TSW, but felt the same sentiments as mentioned above. Had a hard time accepting polymer, and the TSW is no longer being produced. Also went with the 4566TSW as I have a 5906 and seemed like more natural transition between two firearms, both TDA, slide mounted decocker, weight and similar size.

Will note that I have shot the M&P 45, and it shot accurate and was suprised at the minimal amount of recoil for a polymer frame. Have shot the M&P 40, and didn't care for the sharp recoil of the 40 S&W rounds. Have shot other 40 S&W caliber guns and had same reaction. Guess these arthritic wrists don't like that "snap."

As long as you prefer the TDA trigger over the striker fired guns then the 4013TSW would probably be a good choice. You do loose one round but you can also use the 11rd full size mags and with the grip adaptor they fill out your hand nicely. I prefer the early pre-rail TSWs' myself from '98-99, but unless you get a later version TSW or Shorty-Forty the decock only feature may not be available.

I own both, with my 4013TSW being one of the short run of pre-rail models.

I like the Hogue wrap-around finger groove grips on my 4103TSW (and on the 6906's I carried). It makes shooting the compact .40 a more pleasant (and controllable, for me ) experience.

Then again, I tend to like the traditional double action 3rd gen guns.

My M&P 40c took some adjustment. While a bit better in the felt recoil & recoil management aspect than my 4040PD and G27, the M&P 40c still has some muzzle whip and snap to it. (The M&P 9c is much better in this regard, I think, and I like the M&P 45 quite a lot.)

Just depends what someone may desire ... although finding the 3rd gen guns is going to become increasingly harder with their production being curtailed except for LE/Gov orders. The future is plastic ...

Personally, I tend to prefer either a 1911 or a 3rd gen TDA pistol, but I've long since acclimated myself to the plastic service guns. Of them all, I tend to rather like the TDA-like triggers of the standard models of the P99/SW99 (which Walther now calls their Anti-Stress, or AS, model). I can easily use my Glocks or M&P's, though.

I thought I read that someone wanted to know how it looked... Well here I am gripping it with my left and right hand...

Thank you punisher. Would you say you have average hands? It looks like your pinky is kinda squished onto the grip. I am really leaning toward this pistol, it just looks so good.

I donno,,, ive never given it that much thought. It may look like my pinky looks squished, but its not. In fact, the reason Im not looking for a CS40 or CS45 is because the grip isnt long enough.

You can remove the mag extension or use a higher capacity mag if you find the grip too tight.

I highly recommend the 4013TSW to anyone. In fact, my sister in-law got a hold of one of them, and bought my other one from me.

Here are some comparison pics of a railed 4013TSW and a M&P 40c.

These may be too large to give a good perspective, but I was in a hurry.

I have a M&P40c and would love to have a 4053tsw because it is the same size as my 6946 which was my first carry gun.

I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Just a point of reference, and it may or may not be totally true:

I was told by Smith & Wesson (in an email) that my 4013TSW was not convertable to decocker-only.

The early production "pre-rail" TSW's did not have the necessary machining in their slides to accept the spring-loaded, decock-only assembly. The slides would have to be modified by the factory.

Just an observation related to the 4013 tsw... I WANT one! I bought a 4006 several years ago and as a left handed shooter I find it handles very well, shoots better than I do and the ambi decocker is a welcome feature. I carry it on my farm while working in all kinds of conditions. I don't worry about water, dust or sweat and keep it wiped down when I get home. The stainless frame does add weight; I can always launch it when I run out of rounds. I've looked closely at the M&P 40 but I want a 4013 TSW with the rail for CC. I tinker with blacksmithing and silversmithing; the feel of metal just appeals to me. Any help or direction would be most appreciated. Thanks.

I was always a revolver type and decided to get an auto. I bought both sizes of the M&P 9s but I did not like plastic or striker fired guns. I sold the full size then traded the 9c to a 3913. Now I have several 3rd Gen TDA. I will not own any more plastic guns since I am old and what I have will easily outlive me. I am not knocking the M&Ps but they are not for me.

4013

I have a 4013, non TSW model that is my 95% carry gun (I use the 3913 when I need something smaller). I fnd it to have the power, and accuracy that I need to trust my life to. And as a friend of mine says " I may have 8 rounds, and the bad guy has 11. All that means is when we are done, I will have 7, and he will still have 11  Sorry, but metal wins every time for me. I have one more pistol to pick up, then I will post some pictures of the collection, modest as it may be.

im for the 4013tsw, but then again im biased as Ive owned two 4013tsw double stack no rail.

To me the gun has to fit the hand. and the M&P compacts just didnt fit the bill. Plus I like the stainless over the plastic.

The stainless wont rust, easy to clean, theres no coloring to rub or scrub off while cleaning, and it wont break. (ive had plastic on weapons break)

Its eatten everything ive fed it and just keeps on shootin. Not a single problem.

So do yourself a huge favor, get the 4013 over the plastic!!

I found the 4013 TSW with rail that I was looking for. I should have it in hand this week. Now the next part of the equation is what holster fits best? I'm looking for something for CC. Any suggestions? ...and in left hand...

I was playing with my 4013 TSW (no rail) and noticed it fit the holster for my full-size S&W M&P very well. The only difference is that the 4013 slide lock lever is in a slightly different location and sticks out more than the M&P lever. This holster is a Don Hume 721 OT (open top, no thumb break) and I like this design a lot. It conceals very well and I have one for both my Ruger KP944 and the forementioned M&P that will now be used for the 4013. The M&P holster has provisions for a rail, so it might work for the rail version of the 4013. If you are interested in the Don Hume, I would suggest taking your gun to a gun show (following all of their rules regarding carrying), find the holster dealers, and trial fit them. Chances are they won't have one specifically for the 4013 but you might try the one designed for the M&P.
