Hi! I should have introduced myself earlier. I have been a long time lurker on this site. I spend most of my time in the revolver section.

However, my wife is looking for a new handgun for CCW. She currently has an HK USPc .40. She would like something a little more compact and lighter. I noticed on Smith and Wesson's Website that the M&P .40c is now being offered with a thumbe safety. My wife is wants a manual safety of some sort.

Does anyone have any experience with the thumb safety models? And, are the thumb safety models for the M&P compacts out yet? My computer searching skills are lacking.

As far as any other suggestions for a ccw firearm, she is stuck on the .40 cal.

The 45s' are out there but I haven't seen any of the 9/40s' yet. They are listing them about $40 highter than the standard model. Had a customer that wanted one but also wanted the mag safety and the way they're listed now doesn't show that configuration. I have the M&P9c and like it very well.

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't mind seeing her look at the 9 mm M&P Compact. But her mind is made up on the .40.

We were at the Gun Show tonight in Cedar Rapids. Surprisingly enough, there were not too many M&P's on display.

Have you heard any complaints or seen any problems arise out of the use of a thumb safety on the .45 M&P?

I've got several people that have the M&P40c and they all like theirs, I just find the recoil a bit too snappy for my taste. I'm comfortable with the 9s' abilities. I think if a person grew up on 1911s' they would like the thumb safety, it just seems redundant to me. One more thing I need to think of before putting the gun into action. I perfer to simply use the "leave my finger off the trigger till I'm ready to shoot!" theory.
