Hey guys, this is my first post here.

I just got a brand new m&p 40c from the tulsa gun show this weekend and so far I love it. It fits my hand perfectly and shoots pretty good. It also has an ambidextrous thumb safety which isn't a big deal to me.

So here's the questions, I paid 500.00 out the door for it, is that a good price? Also, is there anything I should know about this gun? Such as, the recoil spring wears out fast, or it doesn't do well with a certain grain of ammo? I shot some 180 grain cheap stuff through it and it was grouping about 4in at 15 yards.

Thanks

I paid 509 for my 40c, same gun as yours with the AmSafety, at the LGS, so it seems you got a fair price.

As for ammo, I've shot a lot of Blazer Brass in 165 and 180 through mine and it shot well with both. I've had zero problems with mine. No failures to feed or fire. There is nothing about it I don't like. If you are going to leave it stock and want to carry it, I've found that the Galco Concealment holster for OWB carry is a very good choice. Keeps the gun in close with a minimum of printing. At around 110 bucks, it isn't cheap, but it's worth it. Since mine is now sporting a Veridian CLT light, I no longer use the holster, but it was the best of those I tried for OWB carry. Great gun, and your groups will tighten up as you get used to it.

The flat wound recoil springs that S&W use seems to last forever. I've got over 40K rounds on one of my pistols and I've had a spare spring in my range bag since it was new last summer. The spare is still in the bag. Ammo?, shoot whatever is cheapest and shoot a lot of it. (or better yet, start making your own).

The one thing that I really don't much care for is the trigger. Will it get much better with use or do y'all recomend a trigger job for it?

I know that one of these days I plan on getting fiber optic sights, but for now the ones on it is fine.

I paid $479 at lgs a little over a year ago. The only issue I have had is with Tulammo and failure to feed. Nothing I did helped. No problem with any other ammo.
I love the 40c. I'm sure you will too! I have been told by many different lgs employees that this is probable one of the best all around weapon that satisfies all needs. Congrats and enjoy!

mine was $550 in Jan 2013. the trigger does get a little better, but not a whole lot...it's good enough for me, but you may want to install an apex trigger

Mine was $500 with the R&C kit in Oct '13.
I use the large palmswell and never had a gun fit my hand so well. After a couple hundred rounds downrange I liked it so much I bought a 9c. Just because.
I have the stock trigger in both and doesn't both me one bit.

I paid $399 for a used one in really good condition with 2 mags all the grips box lock and paperwork. So I think you got a fair deal. I paid $600for my M&P 40 Range/Carry Kit new if that helps any.

I have had no problems with my compact or the full size.

I paid $500 for it 2yrs ago this 40c fires anything no problem firing 185"s , 165"s , had some trouble with the frame tool , finally got a few extras at speed shooter specialties , just got the galco inw holster , wouldn't part with my 40c , one of my favorite guns, love that recoil on either grain 185"s or 165"s

Frame tool? What's that?

Good choice td. It's a fair price and much better than our big box sporting goods stores up my way. My "frame tool" was impossible to get out without a heavy pair of pliers and I don't think I'll need to remove it again as I have the large palmswell firmly in place. I don't need the little lever flipped down to breakdown my pistol. I dry fire it 100 times a day anyway (it's new too) so I pull the trigger.

My trigger sucks when I'm dry firing it but at the range I don't notice so much. I'm beating my old XD9 groups already with my new 9FS so I hesitate to spend money on something I might not need.

$469 here in CT last month. Mine has a problem with the slide randomly locking open with ammo still in the mag. Currently back at S&W for warrenty. Loved the feel and the accuracy, high hopes for the claimed excellant reliability when returned.

i also did not like the factory trigger. i purchased the Apex DCAEK duty carry kit. cost me $89.00 and i watched the Apex Youtube walk through. ended up taking me 2 hours. i have never tried to mess with a guns inside. it may have been a little shorter but of course i had to drop one of those tiny little arse springs. so we had a 30 minute manhunt. Found it!!!!

took the gun to the range and this is how it went. pic on the left factory trigger, the right after the Apex install

it def lowers the amount of pull you need and makes the reset a little nicer. end of the day i still have a lot of work to do to get em all closer but i def shot better with less sight deflection from the tough, gritty trigger pull

as far as price goes....i got mine from Gander. $549 but Budsguns had i t for $429...took a screen shot showed it to them and they said up...we will match it. walked out with my M&P40, snapcaps, all the cleaning supplies i needed and a Blackhawk serpa holster for $575

$500 is def in the right price range

I love my 40c (although I shoot it as a 9c a lot at the range swapping out the barrel and mags). I changed to the Apex poly trigger after about 1000 rounds (not the whole kit, just the trigger) and i love it. Got mine used for $430 after transfer fees.

They are $469.00 plus Uncle Sam here in NE Ohio. So I would say you got a fair deal.

Had the same problem with my 40c and my 357c...sent them both back at the same time. Came back in two weeks and 100% since.:)
