I thought my daughter was somehow depressing the mag release button but then it happened to me also. After 2 to 5 rounds the mag ejects out. Running Ammo Inc. FMJ 230 gr. New gun, maybe 300 rounds through. Any suggestions?

Contacted S&W and they sent a return label. Now they will decide if it is a warranty item or not. Wondering how a design defect/flaw could not fall under warranty but I'll wait for their official decision. Will be posting vids of mag ejecting itself on X.

The only time I've seen this is when there is a problem with the placement of the magazine catch in the frame (probably not likely) or with the magazine catch slot/hole in the magazine (more likely to be a magazine here and there that wasn't made quite right.

Is it one magazine or all of them? Are your mags. marked so you can ID one magazine that is an issue? Or is it every magazine (do you have more than the two a new M&P usually comes with?)

Both times I've been asked to help figure this out the guns were 1911/1911 style (double stack) pistols. Both times it was one gun brand of magazines being used in a different brand of gun. We used small files to slightly open up the magazine catch slot/hole in the magazine (removed metal from the top of the slot/hole) to get those magazines working in a particular pistol. Just need to field strip the magazine and then be sure to clean out the metal filings before testing each magazine body. Then be sure it's good and clean before reassembly of the magazine.

Try an make sure if it's just one or all of your magazines.

Same issue with my M&P 45 2.0

Bought a brand new M&P 45 2.0 full size in middle of December. First time at range, it would drop the magazine every 3-4 shots. Tried 3 different factory brands of ammo and also both magazines. Still kept dropping mags. I know I'm not hitting the mag release. I carried M&P's on duty with no issues.

Call S&W. They gave me a return label. Shipped the gun back to them. They had it 4 weeks and I just got it back yesterday. Their findings said they range tested it and had no issues. Sent it back to me with no repairs. Took it to the range yesterday. Mags still dropping on their own every few shots. Called back S&W. They offered to send me 2 new mags just to see if it's a mag issue. I highly doubt the mags are going to make a difference. So frustrating. Thinking about just trading it in on something different. Definitely have no trust in the gun to use it for self defense.

If you take it to the range again, try this (at the range).

Lock the slide back.
Insert a full mag.
Tug on the mag to make sure it's fully locked in.
Shoot one handed until the slide locks back.
Repeat with other mag.

Shooting one handed ensures your hand(s) are nowhere near the mag release.

Also, if you're inserting a full mag on a closed slide, you may not get the mag fully seated. You may have to give a good whomp. Tug on the mag to make sure it's locked in.

This was the topic of a very detailed thread on this forum regarding the 10MM M&P. A member here had video of it happening and his frustration with S&W for telling him everything was fine. The 10MM was built off the .45 frame so there could be an issue. I have an M&P 45 2.0 and it’s never done it but I admit I’ve only taken it to the range maybe 4-5 times.

SAW returned my M&P .45 2.0 today with a repair invoice showing they replaced the magazine catch. No charge. They range tested. Daughter and I will range test on Friday night and post results.

Great news. Ran 40 rounds through, tried to create worst conditions - i.e. inserted full mag with slide forward, just lightly put in mag until it clicked and still we had zero self-ejections. SAW repair by replacing mag release fixed issue.
