Over the weekend, I ordered a new M&P .45 mid-size. It should be in the end of this week. It has been a while since I have had a .45.

My preferred .45 SD ammo in the past was Taurus Hex 185g SCHP, but that round is no longer available.

Are any of you using the Magtech First Defense 165g +P SCHP in your M&P .45? How does it work out? Any problems? Any comments?

That would be nice to know how the m&p works with +p ammo. I' have a .357 sig m&p and im thinking about getting a .45 M&P too. Does any body know, can any body answer this question?

I took my new M&P to the range yesterday. I shot a number of different kinds of ammo, including the Magtech SCHP that I originally asked about. I had no function problems with any of the ammo.

I wasn't able to hit anything, shooting low and right, but that (I think) was me, not the gun or the ammo. I'm going to change backstraps, do some dry firing (wish it had "second strike") and try again.

MP 45 FS

You might want to try all 3 backstraps ? It will make a difference on
how well you shoot. Good Luck I love my MP 45 FS.

Per Massad Ayoob:

In .45 caliber, the matured Federal Hydra-Shok design is something of a gold standard, and the Winchester SXT, Remington Golden Saber, and CCI Gold Dot also have delivered impressive performance in the field. These bullets reliably open up and get the job done. In .45 Auto, the 230-grain bullet at some 880 foot seconds has become standard in police work. Note that all of these are high-tech projectiles, what is known in the trade as “premium ammunition.”

Sounds like you might be tightening your grip as you squeeze the trigger. Follow this link to the "Wheel of Misfortune" to help analyze possible problems with your shooting form.

I suspect you are both right. I won't be able to get back to the range for a few days, but I have switched from the Large backstrap to the Small. I realized after trying all three, that the Small was much closer to the grips on the pistols I already own and shoot much better with.
