Thinking of purchasing a m&p 45 and getting the 460 rowland. Skeptical to say the best. Does anyone know if there is anyone know of a way so that it isn't as hard on the frame on the m&p. I was thinking of maybe a 24-26 lb recoil spring if someone makes them(haven't checked). Looking for something that can multitask and don't wanna buy a gun in 10mm or 44mag and just have it solely fill one roll. The primary focus of this will be woods carry. All I got is a 9mm with the +P+ 147 grain fmj's from underwood in it right now and if I come across a black bear or a moose I want something bigger then 9mm no matter how much of a +P+ it is.

I suspect that anything with that kind of power will beat your frame to death regards of what you do. You might be able to keep it functioning for a while but not indefinitely. Maybe if you only shot it enough to make sure that it works and never shoot it again unless it is to defend against a bear it would be OK but I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be with that either. Have you seen anyone else doing this? Are there barrels available for this kind of swap?

Well, here's an old thread on the topic...

I got curious and looked around. This kit is $389. Looks like you can pick up a new Taurus 44M revolver for about $600, at least in my area according to Gallery of Guns. You can find 44M ammo just about anywhere and you can also shoot 44 special out of it for practice and fun. That revolver is light weight and only hold 5 rounds. You'll have to practice with it to be competent but that would be the case with the 460 as well. I think I'd go with a gun designed for this power level.

Good luck finding ammo. And please don't buy a Taurus. There are many S&W 44 mag revolvers out there for a decent price for that matter there are many Rugers out there too.
