I own a Shield 9 mm and love the weapon.

If the magazine capacity drops to 10 I see the M&P 9 c not worth buying over the Shield.

I have never handled nor fired the M&P 9 c

I ordered 5 12 rd finger rest magazines with the idea of buying the M&P 9 c when things calm down.

Question?

If I own a Shield is it worth buying the compact ?

Is it a decent range gun ?

I considered full size but I already own the XD 45 13 round and 17 round magazines for the full size M&P 9mm are gone and Impact Guns are not even taking back orders due to the demand.

Yes you should buy one. I don't have a shield but do have a kahr cw9 which is similar in size.

I started carrying a 642 but bought the kahr for higher capacity, faster reloads, and ease of shooting. I carried the kahr a lot. The same drive for larger capacity and characteristics of a full size led me to purchase the 9c.

It is a fine range gun, handles like a full size and will accept full size mags. I hardly carry the kahr anymore because the thickness difference is so marginal. I conceal iwb at 3:30 with a comp tac mtac. Truthfully I find that there is no better EDC for me than the 9c. In fact I just bought a full size for my fiancé and the night stand.

A local store has one in stock for $485 if your interested. Brand new with x grip and full size mag + a 12 rnd. If you don't get the 9c ill buy some mags off you!

Don't see why Impact can't get them, our distributors have plenty in stock and Impact is a power buyer.

I bought my M&P 9c at the end of 2008 and have about 13K rounds thru it. My first auto, now I don't even own a revolver.

I've never had a problem with it and my trigger has always been great, though many have bought Apex triggers.

I've only put a few rounds thru a Shield so my opinion is limited to that. They are very different pistols. I find the 9c much easier to shoot, but I do prefer a double stack pistol.

If it's just for the range, why not get a full sized pistol? If you already have the magazines you could probably sell them. I have shot local competition with mine and done well, but only did it for practical experience with the pistol. It's very easy to be accurate up to about 75', though I've hit within the 10 ring at 100 yards using a two handed grip. I can't do that often.

The 9c is a great carry pistol. I use a Comp-Tac Infidel and it's very comfortable.

I have the 9c and absolutely love it. It is my EDC and all around favorite pistol. You should love it.

I like my 9c. It carrys good shoots good and does range duty as well. You could buy the 9c for range and home defence and use your shield for carry. Since you already have one.

I love my 9C. But in the same way that I'd never buy a Shield because it's close to the 9C in size, there isn't that much difference in going up, either. But then, you do have the 15-round mags it can use (2 of which I got for Xmas). Have you considered a full size 9 or .40?

Buy the M&Pc in .357 Sig. You will be able to hit your target way farther out than with a 9mm, LOL!!

I owned a 9C before the Shield came out. I compared it to the Shield and decided that it was not that much smaller. Besides, I liked the feel of the 9C better.

If you have five 12 round mags, plus the two that come with the pistol, you'll probably have enough for the life of the pistol. Any potential ban will not change that. If it concerns you, use 10 round mags for practice and carry it with a 12 in place.

I would say yes like the others here. I bought the M&P9 Pro first and liked it so much I picked up the 9c on Friday. I have brought it to the range twice now and really enjoy shooting it almost as much as my 4 1/4" full size. I'm just as accurate with it and it is awesome that you can use the 17 round magazines in it with the X-Grip adapter! Now I just need to find a IWB holster for it that I like.

The compact being able to take the full size mags is awesome. Makes it very versatile.

Buying, trying to anticipate future laws, is just such a mess, but I am thinking about it as well.

I've been a huge advocate of 9mm. But what the heck do I want a full size 9mm for if its only ten rounds where I could have 10 rounds of 40 or 45.

But then we're making decisions on "what ifs".

I have all the 9's and love each and every one. They all have a place. Shield is great as a BUG and hides very well. Same for the 9c. About 90% of the time I carry my FS 9. NOT really worried about the "what ifs".

I ordered 5 12 round and back ordered 4 17 round mags in 9mm.

I like the idea of adding the Xgrip extension.

I really appreciate everyone's input especially with caliber.

I decided to stay with 9mm for the cost (I don't reload ) lower recoil for my wife (another reason for M&P 9 c she is a south paw) and I already own the XD 45 which is nice for hiking in Utah black bear areas especially with 13 round magazines but I enjoy target shooting with 9mm.

One more question

Do we know the serial # series when S&W replaced the trigger on the M&P 9 c ?

Thanks I really do appreciate everyone's opinion.

I own both 9c and 9mm Shield and in my opinion they are to different weapons. They look similar but the Shield to me is much easier and comfortable to conceal, and in Fl where I live you wear t-shirts and shorts most of the year I notice a big difference. The 9c is a much better range gun than the shield and a little softer when shooting. IMO you can't go wrong with a 9c

I have the 9c, 45c, and the XDS and have had the 9c since last March.
I use the 9c for carry every day. I feel lost without it.
I did install the APEX kit with the Trigger kit and an RMR02 sight.
With failing eyesight (naturally not do to my young age) I find the RMR02 easier to sight than the metals. Thats the only reason for them.
I carry this in an OWB holster by Dale Fricke. Lot of good holster makers out there but this is the one I ended up with.
It works great as a carry weapon and as a range gun. Fun to shoot. If I quit and carried a different gun I would still keep this as a range gun.
It is all personal preference.
Good Luck.
