I have a Model 63 with a five inch barrel. I can shoot that little .22 better than any other handgun I own. I like the fit, feel and balance so much I bought a Model 60-18 when I found one at a good price. The 63 has a black ramp front sight and the 60 has the orange insert ramped front sight. I do not like the orange sight even a little bit.

Is changing the front sight a novice job? Is it simply pressing out the pin and pressing in another after installing the sight of choice?

I would not characterize this sort of front sight exchange as a "novice job". Front sight blades, if you can find a suitable replacement the correct size and height, are not pre-drilled for the pin, and the base of the new sight will likely require careful fitting to the cavity in the ramp.

An alternative to replacement would be to blacken (paint over) the insert with a permanent marker or flat enamel. This would provide the sight picture you desire without changing out the original sight itself.
