M&P 9 feed question

I just picked up my first full size M&P 9 (not Mod 2). I've owned a few Shields but I'm mostly into S&W revolvers. When I manually rack the slide to dry cycle the ammo, there is a slight hesitation when each round hits the feed ramp. There is a feeling of impact and then the slide closes. It loads and ejects OK and it does this through all 17 rounds in all three magazines. The feed ramp is nice and shiny and the gun looks like new. I'm running Sig V Crown JHP through it. I have not taken it to the range yet. Is this normal for the M&P?

Most likely the jhp is catching just a bit . This is fairly common with jhp due to ,the hollow point design.. Which is why you always need to test your ammo before your life depends on it. However If it functions and fires you're good to go.

Was the gun cleaned and lubed before you tried "dry cycling" ammo? Mine eats everything like a fat chick going after a box of candy.

Shoot it and see. Mine does that, but it runs like a champ.

Looks like it's the ammo. I found some different hollow points with a slightly smaller opening and longer cone and they feed with much less of that lag that I felt with the Sigs although there is still just the slightest bump when the bullet hits the feed ramp. When I use FMJ there is no hesitation at all. The Sig ammo does have a fairly large mouth in the open end of the bullet. I'll shoot them both when I get to the range but I'll probably stick with the one with the smaller opening even if they both shoot OK.

I've had the same issue on racking Speer Gold Dot 147gr HP in my FS M&P9. But again, never a hiccup firing the same.

Hand cycling rarely duplicates the actual firing cycle.

Use some grease on the slide rails and the center bottom inside of the slide, and a thin wipe on the locking surfaces of the slide/barrel. Cycle it without ammo a couple of hundred times. It will wear in, reducing slide friction and increaseing closing speed.

Yep. Mine's a new pistol, and I went ahead and polished the feed ramp with a dowel and 1200 then 1800 grit paper. Greased the rails, of course. It helped somewhat with those wide-nosed Gold Dots.
