Hello,

At the range yesterday, had the paint come out of the left dot on my rear sight, and part of the front sight.

Anyone had this happen? I really haven't even put that many rounds through mine, nor has it been handled a lot or handled roughly, dropped etc.

Would it be worth calling Smith and Wesson to see what they can do for me?

To be honest, I'd given night sights a thought, as this will be my CCH gun once my paperwork comes through. If I was going to change them out, this is the catalyst I was looking for probably.

Anyone with any experience in a DIY Night Sight job using the factory sights would be awesome too! I wouldn't know where to begin.

Thanks,

Cclark

Do a search, plenty of info here. It's no big deal and very common. I have 6 M&P's, several dots fell out, I just dabbed the hole with plain old office white out and haven't had a problem since..

Although these faulty dots are a common point of failure and it shouldn't happen, S&W continues to ship guns with this problem. Why? Who knows.

You can send it back on S&W's dime and it will be repaired. However, it will likely be the same dots as the one which fell out and your gun will be gone for several weeks.

I've had good luck replacing lost S&W dots with a dab of "Lure & Jig Finish" bought from the fishing section at Gander Mountain. I use a round toothpick to pick up the paint and let it run into the hole. It doesn't take much. This coating comes in several different colors, but none glow.

Below is a link so you can see what this stuff looks like. You will likely find it cheaper elsewhere... Like I mentioned I found mine locally.

My 9c did the same thing on the front site. I know S&W would take care of it but like someone else mentioned, why continue to put these out? Besides, I would rather not be with out my gun!
I did the same thing as Edmo but since I have ladies in the house I just used a dab of nail polish. It is bright white but does not glow.

It happened to me with my M&P9c first range visit also. I got a white hobby paint pen, worked perfectly. I have since replaced them with night sights.

My paint is still perfect on all my M&P sights....

Because the sights are off the guns and stored in the safe. :p

I started ordering all mine with night sights. But the ones that came with standard sights and I installed night sights, now those may be collectors items some day.

I can see it now.... Original 2009 M&P front sight with ORIGINAL paint, MINT condition, VERY RARE... $3,000 OBO. :D

Same thing here. Dot fell out of the front sight at round number 37.
I masked off around the sight then hit it with two coats of white paint from a paint pen. Then I hit it with a coat of hi-viz yellow nail polish (think the color on DOT worker vests. I found the bottle at Rite Aid for two bucks.). I've gotten over 500 rounds through it now without a problem.

Tapatalk ate my spelling and grammar.
