I'm a double action revolver and 1911 type but have been looking and reading about the new autos online (haven't held one yet). I'm really interested in the CORE, largely for the simplicity of installing a red dot sight for my aging eyes. Is a thumb safety optional for this model? Does it need one? I guess I don't understand the action. It appears to be single action with no visible safeties other than pulling the trigger. I can see this is an action-shooting type gun but could/would you use this gun for bullseye shooting? Thanks in advance for the insights.

1. No
2. No
3. Guess not. It has 3 internal safeties and will not fire if dropped. You have to pull the trigger to disconnect the safeties and make it fire. So keep your finger out of the trigger guard until the sights are on target.

It is not a bullseye gun in my estimation, since it cannot consistently shoot "possibles" on a bullseye target. Expect around 3" at 25 yds consistently with suitable ammo. By chance, you might get them all in the same hole rarely. My Model 14 is capable of 1" all day if I manage to do my part.

Thanks for the info. I still don't have a handle on the action. Is it like a double action revolver? I keep picturing a 1911 with no thumb safety. I know it's a striker fired weapon but I've never shot anything quite like it. Is there a way of accurizing a M&P or is there little point? I watched a Jerry Miculek video of speed shooting a M&P and it was very impressive - of course watching Jerry shoot anything is very impressive, LOL.

Forget trying to compare the new "striker fired" actions to your 1911, or debating single vs double action: It is as pointless as the debates about what kind of propeller was needed on a jet engine when they came out, or what the newfangled "horseless carriages" should be named. It is a whole new paradigm; the striker is locked until the trigger unlocks the safeties.

There is no point trying to "accurize" a striker fired gun like you would a 1911 for bullseye. As for MR Miculek, he does NOT go around firing at 2" bullseyes in his demonstrations, so a 3" gun at 25yds is more than adequate for his purposes. Most of the time, a 6" plate at 10 yds is the smallest target he faces, even in sanctioned competition, but he can hit that plate faster than you can think about it.

The CORE technically is double-action. There is a safety in the trigger itself, not too unlike Glock, and there is a longish total trigger pull compared to many single action automatics. There really is no need for a manual safety, but you can get a variant with a thumb safety. I carry a 4.25 CORE and I compete with a 5" CORE. Both guns are equipped with Trijicon RM-01 reflex sights (4-year battery life left on full-time).
As for bullseye, optics aren't always allowed, so check your local gun club. The guns are capable of bullseye accuracy, but that would be after getting the trigger pull lowered. I had Apex Tactical set the triggers below 3 pounds. That is the best group-shrinking modification you can make.
