IF you ordered the Compact with the as-yet available safety, then why would you consider the XDM w/o a safety? BTW, I've handled the XDM, and it's MORE than "full-size". It's literally about twice the size of the compact M&P.

I have 2 M&Ps neither are 9mm, Both are great guns. When I wanted a 9mm I bought the XDm. It also is a great gun and an excellent value. Cant tell you which to buy but you cant go wrong with either.

BTW the XDm does have a grip safety and neither of my M&Ps have a thumb safety and I wouldnt buy one that did.

I bought the M&P just over a year ago. I was intending to get the XD but it was a toss up. The reason I bought the M&P is something I read about Springfield wouldn't honor the warranty if the gun was modified in any way. Any work done on the XD would have to be done by them. I can't leave anything stock. I will do something to it. I don't know if what I read is true, but I didn't take a chance. Before I ever fired the M&P I polished the ramp and striker with a dremel tool. I probably would like the XD, but I know I am happy with my M&P 40C, and I am very happy I bought it.
