Hi all,

The M&P compact is lighter by around 9oz, and has a much different trigger pull, plus slightly higher capacity, and is wider.

Just be extra careful when holstering the newer pistol, since it requires only a light trigger pull to fire it, and there is no hammer drop safety, like you have on the 3913.

Field stripping the M&P is easier.

Both are terrific pistols, and by all means keep the 3913, as it is a classic.

Thanks for your input.
I'll do my best to keep the 3913, could you tell me how many rounds through your M&P's? Any issues at all? Thank you so much.

My M&P compact has around three hundred rounds thru it. Since newer pistols have stiffer springs, lower power ammo may not cycle as reliably. Just use 124 grain or heavier, and standard to +P velocities, and you will be fine.

The pistol will be as comfortable to shoot as your older 3913; perhaps more so.

I have an early 9c, I replaced the mag catch with a new one from S&W great service. I like to have a slightly longer grip, I have a full size magazine and a grip adapter, works well. I shoot 115 gr ball and HP, never a problem.

Who has shot it in competition, but prefers a 1911 style.

I have an M&P9c I bought new in September, 2010, but found out later, by the box coding number, that it was made in December, 2008.
I initally had a problem with the magazine followers hanging up and having a problem with the extractor not grabbing Winchester white box ammo to pull out the empty case, about 3 in a hundred, though all other ammo worked 100%. I called Smith and they sent me the newer style followers and extractor, but I ended up modifying my old one to a more aggressive hook, like the Apex. Everything now works 100%. If you buy one made in 2010 or newer, it should run perfectly out of the box. I carry mine daily and shoot IDPA with it. Best gun I've ever owned.

I've owned a M&P 9c for 3 yrs and have fired approx 3000 rds through it. I like it so well I also purchased one for my daughter and she loves it. IMHO the 9c is a great pistol. I also own several 3913s. I would never part with my base collection of 3913s however if you need to dispose of yours for the 9c I am sure you will like the higher capacity and very good shooting traits of the 9c. I have several 17 rds mags with the Xgrips extenders which gives more grip area if you have large hands, plus more capacity. My 9c also has MeproLight sights and stays in a bag beside my LazyBoy.

My 9c only has a few hundred rounds through it; so far no stoppages and I defintiely shoot it better. If you can keep both then I definitely would, however were it ME, I would trade off a 3913 for a 9c.

You cant go wrong with the M&P9c,I have shot a lot of rounds in mine with only 1 failure and it was a faulty practice reload,I am wearing mine as I type and it is very comfortable, you will find that a good fitting holster that stays in place will make you want to carry a lot more.Good luck with it.

Why just get a 9c? If you get a 40c for an extra $80 you can buy a 9mm barrel and shoot either!

Another 9c happy camper here. Have had mine for several years and several thousand rounds without a single failure of any kind. It carries, conceals and shoots very well and swallows anything without complaint. I went with the De Santis OWB Thumbreak holster that S&W offers and it works quite well at 3 to 3:30 or cross draw. YMMV

MP 9c

I have had one for several years. No problems. I use it in IDPA regular
and BUG matches. I did buy a 9mm conv bbl for my FS 40 MP. If I had thought I would have sold the 9c and kept the 40c and gotten the conv bbl.

We have several 9c's in our family. They run like clocks and feed anything we throw into them. My 3913 is gone but I need to say that I believe the 9c has lest felt recoil due to it's superior ergonomics.

You won't be disappointed ( once you smooth-en the trigger).

I wish I would have found this thread before I bought my SD9:) I did not like the short grip on the 9c when I tried it. Didn't know the grip extenders existed.

When you buy it, contact Customer Service and ask for a couple mag extensions. They allow you to place your pinkie in the grip which is a big advantage.
Over the past 12 months, my wife has run ~ 1000 rounds of whatever was on sale with no worries.
Last night I took it to the range for the maiden voyage of my 115 gr. hotter'n store bought reloads. Fed 200 through without a hiccup.

Great gun.

I must be the only one that likes the short grips. I suggest getting used to both, because the short grips (flat base plate) conceal much better. I shoot using both and can't tell the difference in shot placement or recoil between them. Then again I was used to small grips (snubby).

Nope, you're not the only one. I prefer the short grip as well. Can you get the flat base plate?

Bought my 9c in 2009 and am approaching 15K rounds. No problem at all. Still have the original striker.

These folks have flat and curved, not sure why but flat is .50 more than curved.

Thank your for the link; does anyone know which bases come on the 2 free mags (9c)? Still wainting on mine!
