M&P 9mm Magazine Warning

Pro Mags certainly have gotten mixed reviews. Right now I suspect you can find OEM mags just as cheap or cheaper than Pro Mags.

Cabelas has S&W factory 9mm mags in stock (or at least they did last week)

They are back ordered on the full size 9mm mags.
Cabelas is also back ordered on the full size 9mm mags.
Botach has mixed reviews as far as vendors go. I haven't tried them myself so it might be BS. They want $35 per for the full size 9mm.
For regular 1911 mags I shoot 8rnd McCormick power mags or shooting star. I also have some Mec-Gar 1911 mags and they seem to be good to go.
I tried the lifetime warrantee that promag states on one of their 556 wasr 3 magazines during the panic. It took them 3 months but they did send me a completely new magazine. They did take forever to get ahold of and I stomped around telling everyone how they sucked.
You have tried to fix them right? A lot of times the retainer plate thinger isn't seated when they are assembled.

Practice mags are one thing - if they work. On the other hand, the situation described is intolerable.

I have always followed the advice that you should always use factory mags with any brand of pistol, with the following exceptions:

1911s - Wilson, McCormick, Metalform
MecGar - for any pistol for which they make magazines (they make OEM mags for many manufacturers)
ACTMag - for SIG 220 ONLY
MDS - Beretta M9/92F (MDS makes Beretta OEM magazines and Beretta owns MDS)

Add Tripps Research Cobra Mags to your 1911 list. Those things are absolutely top notch.

I bought some 17 rd 9mm pro mag magazines a while ago when that was all that was available. I also bought some S&W base plates for them. I inspected the 'flanges' at the bottom of the mag and tweaked one of them so the base plates had something to grab onto. Also they were really greasy on the inside. After my minor mods and cleaning they have worked perfectly. I think the problem with the base plates is a mag flange issue. I think I got the base plates from Speed Shooters. Good luck and don't toss them as they will be fine for the range.

And no. I am not associated with Pro Mag and knew the reputation B$ buying. I guess I just got lucky.

Unless you are just looking to HATE Pro Mag, there is no way you can believe this post.

Come on, he pressed the trigger and the magazine disassembled. You really believe that statement?

And as stated above, even if the magazine's floor-plate was defective and let loose at the exact second he pulled the trigger, the round in the chamber did not fire either?

Then the three remaining magazines had the exact same floor-plate failure at the exact same moment of pulling the trigger and the pistol refused to fire the round in the chamber 3 more times.

Pro Mag may not be the #1 manufacturer out there, but I have got to call BS on this post

No BS Colt_Saa. I have multiple witness as well and the range master at Scottsdale Gun Club was just as shocked as I was. I wish I could say it was BS but the only BS is the crappy mags . This is only my warning to everyone so if you wish believe me or not that is your choice. I will stick with factory made mags.

You joined a S&W Forum just to rag on ProMag? I am not endorsing or condemning ProMag. However I still doubt the veracity of your accounting of events.

Since the floor plate slides off the base of the magazine (from front to back) how did pulling the trigger cause that to happen?

How did the floor plate coming off along with the spring and ammunition falling out prevent ammunition already in the chamber from firing? Four times yet.

After this hard to believe incident repeated itself 100% identically for the 2nd or 3rd time, none of your witnesses (including the range officer) thought to video the remaining attempt or two?

What has become of these four magazines that disassembled themselves when the trigger was pulled? Are you willing to provide pictures of the now non-functional and disassembled magazines for the Forum to see?

Would you be kind enough to provide the name of the range officer that witnessed this highly dubious quadruple identical failure? By chance was the employee Joe, Jon or Dan?

It would also be nice if you provided the date of the incident. Were you on the main range or in the tactical bay?

I had a similar problem with Pro Mags as well, I was loading a magazine and at the half way point the rounds started popping back out. Once the first one let go 4-5 others would follow, repeated loadings had the same problem on several different mags. Pro Mag would not respond either.

I have 2 Promag 10 rounders for my M&P. While each has seen less than 100 round through them, they seem to work OK. I use them in my FS9 and my 9C (using xgrips). I bought them when there were no M&P mags around.

My Promags for my Mini 14 had some sharp edges but I "buffed" them out. They too seem to run fine now. In fact, I had more issues with my OEM Ruger mags (also took some work to cleanup).

For the price I paid, I don't mind tweaking them a bit to function properly. Admittedly, they are range exclusive, but so are all of my "aftermarket" mags including my Mecgars for my Sig and Beretta. The only exception are my Wilson Combats for my 1911.
