Almost have my hands on one for $449 any good bad thoughts on the gun?

I don't have one (yet), but from what I've heard it's a great little carry gun. I just got a Smith and Wesson M&P9C, and that's a awesome carry pistol for me.

Guess what I don't like about the shield is that the controls aren't ambi. Being a left handed shooter I like having controls that I can use with my left hand.

I own a Shield 9 mm

I have really enjoyed the quality and most important reliability.

One complaint are the stock sights. Many have reported on the M&P forum paint coming off.

I replaced with XS Big Dot night sights.

I love mine (or wife's depending on who's near me when you ask). Just disappears on me. Haven't had any mishaps with it, still under 100 rounds though.

I thought I was the only that ever had that problem. I replaced them with Ameriglo Night Sights.

I have (2) 9mm and (1) 40 S&W and you could do a lot worst. I never had a problem with 9mm and both have over 1,000 rounds each. The first 40 S&W had the mag drop problem and my new one the sight dots dropped out. I would give it two thumbs up. Just curious are you paying $449.00 for a used one? I saw a 40 at Academy last week for $ 469.00 new. The only reason I would not buy one today is the ammo shortage for 9mm & 40 S&W. I getting the XDS this weekend, I see more 45 ACP ammo on the shelves then the other two. If you get it don't forget Talon Rubber Grips it makes handling the gun a dream.

No issues with mine. I like it and its never given me an issue. Give the forum a read, tons of info on the pistol. I would do it again.

Carry my Shield 9mm daily. IWB with a LaTour kydex holster. At the 8 o'clock position (left handed) the pistol disappears on me and very comfortable size and weight to carry all day. I also drop it in the 11:30 position to appendix carry as well. Great when standing, not so much sitting. But my fat belly could have something to do with it.

Shoots great. Accurate at combat distances. I replaced the stock sights with Ameriglo pro i-dot sights with rounded rear notch. Awesome.

I love my Shield. No gun is "perfect," but I feel like I'm not sacrificing as much accuracy for size with the Shield as I am with other guns.

Mines been flawless
I ditched the stock sights and added the night sights for a full size m & p and they work great

I prefer to carry my Shield 9mm over my Kimber Ultra Carry II. It conceals much better and is quite noticeably lighter. I just had the XS Big Dot sights installed on it, and now that I have learned them as a sight system, I am very confident in this pistol.

I have over 400 rounds with out a single malfunction and I will carry it every chance I get from now on. Just bought a Remora holster to replace the High Noon holster I have been using, which will just mean I carry it more!

I love the Kimber, but the Shield is probably more reliable and more comfortable. If they made it in .45, I'd probably have to buy two.

Many people will post about their "flawless" Shield. But I'm here to warn you that most people do not have the knowledge to make that judgement.

I also carry my Shield all day - every day. Here's what I've learned with a couple month's experience. You have to learn to shoot it. I consistently shot low left. I have to shoot the 9mm with the first joint of my trigger finger rather than the pad. Learned that from some folks here!

Secondly, I hand load all my ammo and discovered quickly my cartridge OAL (bullet depth in the case) was too long for this firearm. My Beretta 92F worked perfectly with the length I'd chosen many, many years ago for accuracy in that pistol. Found a happy medium for both firearms.

At 60 + years old, I need an UpLula loader to fill the magazines. The recoil spring is also quite stout. Sometimes I have trouble getting it reinstalled (I'm sounding like a wussy now LOL) but with a couple tries - it is in.

I think it is an excellent semi-auto for CC. The price you mention is stellar as well. Good luck!

Care to elaborate? I have sold ~40 or so shields since their introduction last year and have never heard of a problem with them.... or any of the M&P line, outside of the gritty trigger etc complaints. I would be most interested in hearing a different opinion however.

The Shield line I've noticed has generated a lot of owner loyalty which I would have to interpret as a very good thing. This particular market segment is a crowded and competitive one for sure. If it were me I'd have a really tough time deciding between the Shield, PPS, and XDs 9 as they are all very, very, close in size. The XDs 9 will be showing up in stores any time now but that may not matter to you.

I guess if it were me I'd have to handle each one and see which felt better in my hand and consider all the other intangibles as I looked them over. Best of luck, from what I continue to read on here the Shield is a great way to go though.
